The same Chevy without an actual product? You heard about the Bolt buybacks? I wouldn’t touch a Chevy EV product.

I know this is veering wildly off-topic for this thread, but I owned a 2017 Bolt for 3.5 years that I sold back to Chevy.

When I learned about the Chevy buy back program that's what spawned my plan to sell back my Bolt and buy a Lightning. Actually opened a case with Chevy and reserved a Lightning on the same day.

FWIW, Chevy was great on the buy back. Never had an issue with my battery personally, and got way more $$ than I could have otherwise for the vehicle. They even refunded any finance charges I'd paid on my loan. Living in NJ was helpful apparently due to the NJ Lemon Laws. I know other Bolt owners didn't fare as well.

Master plan is getting close to being complete <knocks wood>. Have a Lariat SR Wave 2 order. Waiting a a scheduled for production date...

Well Ford just did me a big favor. Timing is everything and this puts me in a timing cue for either the Silverado EV or the Lightning. Both vehicles satisfy my need. Whichever reaches out to me first for the 2023 MY will get my business.

Trust me the first edition Silverado most likely won't be there on time. Prob late 2023 to early 2024.

Why?

I have the very first reservation for the Hummer EV first edition, it was supposed to be available to me Fall of 2021 , guess what, I will probably get my F150L (Order Sent) before Hummer EV(still no production date yet).

The highest scheduling VIN# I have seen is 005900.
A long way from 15,000 MY2022s.
‘Lowest VIN has been 002900 so I am guessing the 0-2900 must be dealers stock.
Fleet orders must be making up a large segment of MY2022?

I did not receive this letter as I ordered 2/04/22 so I guess that confirms I got very lucky.

15K I believe has turned out to be optimistic given the supply chain and chip issues. But like the MME production nobody here in the states is thinking about the Lightnings that will be shipped to other countries as part of the overall yearly production. I mean SHIPLOADs of MMEs got sent to Norway last year (in fact the MME was the best selling car in Norway for July 21) as well as among other European and Asian location deliveries. All that cut into deliveries to potential stateside customers. The same thing will happen with Lightnings. Ford is a global company. China will get a pant-load of Lightnings I guarantee it! (just like they get a bunch of Raptors every year, and seemingly before they start showing up in stateside locations).

Also received the email. I reserved on 5/26 so I've been planning on a MY2023. Now that the dealers will be receiving demos my wife and I will at least be able to test drive one prior to ordering.

In fact you should be able to negotiate to put a deposit down on your dealer's "Mannequin" and take delivery of that one instead of waiting for a 2023. I believe the dealers agreement says they have to keep the Mannequin for 4 or 6 months (not sure) and thy have to put miles on it. But after that...it could be yours. That's what happened at my dealer with the Broncos they had as mannequins. And the MME they had.

I'd go ask what trim level your dealer ordered their mannequin in and see if it's one you'd want to buy. And make them a deal.

Good call--the i3 is a highly-underrated EV. You may decide that you don't want/need another truck after driving that thing around for a few months!

But unlike MME, the only "other country" Lightning will be shipped to is Canada.

Not who you asked, but we have a Mach-e GT (non performance edition) and it is great. Absolutely love. It. Fun to drive, economical, and looks great. I have a 2019 GT350 as a 3 season fun car and the Mach-e would blow it away in almost any street legal situation. It is also really good in the snow if that matters to you.

Sotek, Kool Beans... I see you really like that Bad Boy--Nice... Yes, with the exception of my Corvette, my other 5 vehicles are all AWD; that's the only way I roll... I think I may hold up and see what Chevy's upcoming Blazer (I think that's it, can't remember but during the Silverado debut, they showed a beautiful SUV EV) really looks like. I'm sure its driving range will be more than the MME.

Internal Revenue Code Section 30D provides a credit for Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicles including passenger vehicles and light trucks.
For vehicles acquired after December 31, 2009, the credit is equal to $2,500 plus, for a vehicle which draws propulsion energy from a battery with at least 5 kilowatt hours of capacity, $417, plus an additional $417 for each kilowatt hour of battery capacity in excess of 5 kilowatt hours. The total amount of the credit allowed for a vehicle is limited to $7,500.
The credit begins to phase out for a manufacturer’s vehicles when at least 200,000 qualifying vehicles have been sold for use in the United States (determined on a cumulative basis for sales after December 31, 2009). For additional information see Notice 2009-89.
Section 30D originally was enacted in the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 amended section 30D effective for vehicles acquired after December 31, 2009. Section 30D was also modified by the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA) 2013 for certain 2 or 3 wheeled vehicles acquired after December 31, 2011 and before January 1, 2014.
The vehicles must be acquired for use or lease and not for resale. Additionally, the original use of the vehicle must commence with the taxpayer and the vehicle must be used predominantly in the United States. For purposes of the 30D credit, a vehicle is not considered acquired prior to the time when title to the vehicle passes to the taxpayer under state law.
Notice 2009-89 applies to vehicles acquired subsequent to December 31, 2009 and provides procedures that a vehicle manufacturer may use if it chooses to certify that a vehicle meets certain requirements that must be satisfied to claim the Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit and the amount of the credit allowable with respect to that vehicle

The current Federal EV tax credit program was written when EVs were low performance compliance vehicles, not capable of maintaining much resale value let alone matching their purchase price. With demand exceeding supply for all EVs for at least the next five years, I wonder if the fed will come up with an exception to the program where you end up paying short-term capital gains tax on any profit from an EV you “flipped” within a year because - they would argue - you obviously bought it for investment rather than as a long-term purchase.
