That is purely personal preference. Just look at the sale chart, now many F150 vs how many Ranger sold in past years.

This is personal preference for sure. I would not be in the market for a small EV truck. I want a full sized truck like the Lightning. An SUV would be a better option for me than a Ranger or Maverick sized truck. That's me..... 🤷‍♂️

It is, I agree. How many F-150 owners will convert to EV vs. non-F150 owners who are want an EV truck, but not a full size". I wonder how many Lightning order holders are current F-150 owners are new customers, and will the full size be desirable for them? This is a marketing question to answer.

If you have never driven an EV before than the letting off the pedal and slowing down is something you would get used to very fast.
I have a tractor and a Kubota Side-by-side with an hst transmission. When you take your foot off in either of those it will stop VERY fast, much faster than any vehicle would so I would be used to driving like that.
As for size, what did you really expect? It is exactly the same size as a crew cab short box ICE truck. Should have maybe test driven one of those before ordering? I am coming from a extended cab and 8' box with a long wheelbase, so the truck will likely feel small to me.
As for feeling "cheap", it is all up to individual owners. The grill is a byproduct of it being based off the ICE version, they had to put something there. The rims are a typical EV for better range, they almost all look similar to that.

The tractor with the HST is a perfect analogy. Have had one for years and the transition to 1pedal driving in our Mach E was a non-issue.

Also, what happened to all the 8ft beds out there? That dually I mentioned earlier was an extended cab with 8ft bed, loved that truck...such a beast. Now, you can't find anything bigger than 6ft or so

I should have been more clear, I had "1-pedal driving" turned off. I was driving in "Normal Mode" which worked great and allowed for some coasting when the foot was taken off the pedal, similar to an ICE vehicle. When in "Sport Mode", this was not the case. The was some coasting, but it was jerking. It was too responsive to removing your foot from the pedal. To be honest, I really disliked it and kept it in "Normal Mode" the rest of the trip. It is hard to explain, but it is not the 1-Pedal driving you mention.

Everyone has their own taste and opinion. No big deal if you didn’t get it, and based off what you said, it makes the most sense. I just spent an hour with a Lariat mannequin and fell in love with it. Agree on the remarks about the grill. My pro has been built and hope to see it in the next few weeks. I couldn’t justify that cost of 80k either.

Very well said.

I am thinking of the same dilemma @rugbysecondrow had about the size as well.

Having owned a full sized V8 truck about 20 years ago, I'd have to be concerned about the turning radius after getting used to very tight turning radius of unibody crossovers and sedans for the past 20 years....

Now starting to think about this as I planned on using the truck for daily commuting (urban, So Cal traffic) less than 25 miles per day.

Ford is a "new" brand to me as I have owned primarily BMW, Land Rover and Hondas.

Guess will see how I feel about the Lightning soon as my truck is being built....

@rugbysecondrow I want to thank you for being candid about your feelings, knowing some people would jump on you!

There are probably many who will benefit from your experience.

Those who drive full size trucks know the size, but we know that about 75% of sales are new to Ford. I would assume many are new to full size trucks. It is a big step up in size to many, who may not realize how big a full Size really is. That may be a shook.

Regarding the Regen, I am not sure what changes in sport mode, but I assume Regen is turned up (as it is in many EVs), even if not full 1-pedal. Regen is very frustrating at first, but almost everyone I know who converted came to love it. But as you were already in a disappointed mindset with the ruck, this is another big change that feels like a negative. I strongly think you would become accustomed to it and love it, but agreed it is a huge change that makes driving unpleasant until you get the hang of it.

On the quality, luxury trucks have come far and have many features, but the overall luxury is still a step down from true luxury vehicles! They are not going to compare to other luxury vehicles in the price range - an XC90 is going to feel much nicer, especially at the touchpoints of plastic you will feel in the F-150.

Overall, I hope this post helps others understand that jumping from a luxury car to an electric truck is a big change on 3 fronts: luxury downgrade, driving experience change, and a much larger vehicle to drive.

Thanks for sharing!

I get what the OP is saying, He has two vehicles, one half the price of the Lightning and one that is more plush and less expensive than the Lightning.
To each his own. I like big vehicles

It'll take 40 acres to turn that thing around:ROFLMAO:

Seriously tho, pretty close to that. I'd try and get a test drive in a full size 4dr cab truck of some kind before your's shows up

Cool. This isn't a team sport and not everyone has the same taste. I wish there had been more wheel options and I am not a huge fan of the grille. These are both preferences that I was willing to compromise, even at $80K. There are a lot of nice vehicles available at or below that price point. For me, I have not owned a truck in quite a few years and was not a fan of paying the gas for one. This came along and as an early adopter, I also get to take advantage of a healthy tax credit. Trucks aren't getting cheaper and this seemed like good timing for me. It may be my last before I retire/die, whichever comes first. If I truly don't care for it, the market is ripe for me to take advantage of a flip and the tax credit without much of a loss....if any. Then maybe a Maverick hybrid or the new Ranger EV.

Godspeed!

It's funny to me Ford always has cheap grills.

I rember my 2011 XLT when you closed the hood, it felt the grill was about to snap off. Felt so cheap!
