Tax credit for EV charger install

For installations at home, am I correct that the most you can get is 30% of $1,000? For those of us with extended range Lightnings where the charge station is included, can we apply the installation costs or is it for the hardware only?

It covers installation costs including labor, parts such as the breaker, wire etc

I don't see why not. Even in a single year you could have installed two and got the 30% credit off the total cost. Also in NY you can get 50% off.

Where are you seeing that 50% off for NY program. I have looked and found nothing. Is it regional?

I claimed it for 2021. I received a little over $500. The forms have not been updated for 2022 yet of course but they will by tax time.

Input it into my online tax software and it didn’t give me anything for it. Idk if there is an income cap, but I bought the JuiceBox 48 and installed myself.

The accountant would probably cost more than the credit!

That credit, as I'm reading it, requires to to be used >50% of the time in a business. It is not for primarily residential use.

Yes they mentioned to buy your chargers in 2022 before the placement requirement takes affect, just in case.

I believe you’re confusing the separate credits for businesses/commercial installations

I do not believe there are any such locational restrictions to the residential credit, which is just an extension/reinstating of the prior credit

I agree. When they (YouTube video) said that about installations in low income and non-urban areas I thought that must be only applicable to commercial installations but they seem to think it applied to residential as well. But that would not make any sense.
