Congrats to @Drayday55 !!! Delivery yesterday, 2 days before joining the unlucky 50+ days shipping crew.

@EdRudy Welcome to the group. 😥

From what I can see no members from our elite 50+ group have received delivery since last Friday when I last checked. 5 more days. No deliveries for us.

I can understand the frustration with the delivery delays as my MME order which was ordered the same month as my Lightning was unexpectedly pushed from a '22 into a '23.

  • Paying more for a higher trim due to loss of original option changes.
  • Lost color choice (deleted for '23)
  • Incentive reduced (Options cash)
  • Low APR (both finance & Options)
  • Price protection *
  • Loss of $7500 tax credit (unknown 2023 mineral/assembly rules).

* The only saving grace was the $6000 PCO.

Mine has been built for almost a month now and is still awaiting shipping. I feel like ford can’t even figure out shipping from their own factory yet alone across the US.

No doubt order to build issues suck too but I understand that a lot more then purely just shipping delays. Building new model vehicles is complicated, no doubt… lots of variables at play! I find the shipping delays to be imminently more disappointing. Ford has told us and sent us vehicle completion pictures supporting the order to build side is taken care of. They just can’t execute the logistics and worse show no concern nor ability to provide customer service regarding their failure to execute.

But if you look at others who have received their Lightnings, you will see that Ford does try their best to getting it to you promptly.

It's unfortunate that some are caught between many delays that Ford has no power to take control.

Rail, trucking and logistics are pretty much in the hands of the contracted businesses.
That's where your $1795 Destination and Delivery charge pays for...

OTOH my Lightning was shipped and delivered within 15 days from leaving Michigan - on a UP rail line unscathed.

My Lightning missed all the prior embargos with BNSF & CSX, rail line track washouts, and rail strikes.

Total time from production to dealer hands: 45 days.

Ford signed the contracts with these companies, with apparently no ability to step in when they drop the ball. Ford is responsible! Its on them!

Im in manufacturing, we deal with inernational logistics, we deal with vendors. If my company selects vendors that fail repeatedly and we dont have the ability or desire to find a better vendor or method to accomplish the task then we failed! That would be on us!

Don't sign contracts with companies that make you look bad and piss off your customers! Business 101

I think the point a lot of us are irritated about is that for most of us, it’s not a delivery issue. There is not a shortage of truck drivers to deliver the vehicles to the dealer. There are vehicles being delivered to my dealership that were built 6+ weeks after ours. Ford had a shortage of parts for a week or 2, shipped our trucks out, probably because they didn’t have room, and didn’t want to slow down production. All totally reasonable things. But the chips are all in now, and completed vehicles by the thousands are being delivered and picked up while we wait, with no apparent plan to resolve our issue, and zero communication to us or the dealer. Just pushing out the estimated delivery by a month once they miss the previous estimated delivery window.

@Ford Motor Company Are you listening?

This is the key. If you pay for a service the service should be rendered, and should have some type of clause or penalty associated if not satisfactory. So either there is no potential penalty and the shipping vendor(s) can execute as they choose, or Ford just simply chooses not to call them out and force them to pay the penalty or whatever is in the contract. If I pay $100 a month for internet and it is down for 2 weeks out of the month, I damn sure am going to call in and get a credit, since they aren’t providing the service I agreed to. Whether there is an SLA or not I am going to demand a credit. $1800 is a bunch for transporting a vehicle, compared to even 15 years or so ago. Should get white glove treatment for what is charged.

One key difference that makes these situations a little different is technically these aren't our trucks yet.

The dealer has placed an order on our behalf. These trucks belong to Ford/the dealer until we actually purchase it from the dealer.

Unlike other transactions, like when I place an order online and it is shipped to me, the ownership and responsibility doesn't transfer to us until the purchase agreement and documents are signed at the dealer.

It's super irritating, and I'll also be pissed if this happens to my truck (wood has been knocked). Just wanted to point out how this differs from alot of transactions or comparisons being mentioned.

A distinction, and a poor excuse. Blaming A legacy model that does not provide value to the customer. Adapt or die Ford. Tesla and Rivian customers don’t deal with this crap.

also, I will note my dealer said they used to be allowed to go pick up the trucks if they were sitting too long.… But the union convoy service agreements ended that.

Ford is also locked into the dealer model due to state laws. Tesla/Rivian don't have the same headache. Ford is adapting with the Model E changes.

Also, how many shipping options are there for this quantity of large vehicles? (Honestly don't know)

I don't think Ford has the ability to threaten to take business elsewhere if these freight companies don't increase transparency and minimize delays...

Traditionally I don't think Ford Motor Company has cared. Custom ordered vehicles were a very small subset of the dealer business. Previously the only people pissed about shipping issues would be the dealers.

Well written, but @Ford Motor Company doesn’t watch the build week/upset threads unless someone puts a pic of their new truck and says how great it is…

That’s is 100% my point. Ford better start caring… for the Blue oval apologists you are just enabling poor performance at this point. They need to fix this. The stock lots with inventory model is over. Good customer service can start tomorrow… if they had the leadership to demand it.

I just wanna know….
  • is it waiting on parts at the rail yard?
  • Is it LIFO and sadly got stuck along the back wall?
  • Did the rail yards get overwhelmed?

My opinion. The small companies in charge of delivering last mile won't load a truck until they have a full load. With fuel costs and the pending shortage of diesel they won't waste any moves. This, the volume of new deliveries, driver shortage all are adding up. This is ok in my opinion. Ford just needs to have accurate logistics and GPS location on these things.
