Hi All,

Has anyone noticed their CarPlay freezing and shutting down at the exact same spot on the freeway or is it just me? There's an overpass on the 5/405 in Orange County and literally every time I drive on either side my CarPlay just shuts down. Music stops, phone calls drop, screen freezes until I do a hard reboot.

Wireless or wired? There is a spot on a highway near me where my wireless carplay spits and sputters for a few seconds every time. Clearly some interference in that spot but I don't have to restart anything.

Wired. Never had the issue in any other vehicle on that spot. It’s odd. I’ll record it with another phone next time.

It happens to me when I drive through that very same spot on the 5 fwy by the Irvine Spectrum. It doesn't matter if I'm heading north or south. I'll be listening to music and have the navigation screen up and then, when I pass through the spot you've described, the map disappears from the screen and a message pops up saying CarPlay has disconnected. Then, after I drive about a quarter of a mile or so it comes back on its own.

That's the only place I have experienced this, but it happens every time.

that’s the spot. Glad I’m not alone.

happens to me in wireless mode at a specific area as well. Same with my friend who has an ID4. I assume its wireless interference.

I have 3 spots in my town where this happens with wireless CarPlay. One of them happens to be on my route too and from work everyday, on a residential street.

If I'm moving, it'll just pause or cut in and out. If I have to come to a stop due to traffic, it'll completely disconnect, and a screen will pop up telling me that I have to plug in with USB, or audio will turn off completely, and I have to turn it back on.

Once I drive through, it'll typically reconnect, but sometimes I have to go into the phone settings on the head unit and hit the, what I'm assuming is CarPlay wireless indicator, button on the screen. This section has heavy construction as they're putting in a new building, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

2 places on the highways around here will do it too, and that's been an issue if I'm using Apple or Google Maps, because they'll completely freeze, then freeze the touch screen on my truck so that I can't do anything.

I've looked it up online and though other people have the same issue, there doesn't seem to be a solid fix. I followed advice and turned a setting off in my phone that I can't find now, but basically by default it will limit your phone's wifi strength or connection based on location information, so that it doesn't interfere with external devices (or something to that extent). It seemed to improve my issues slightly, but didn't fix them, and it may be a placebo effect.

I'll try to remember to test with wired CarPlay today. Either way, really annoying, and seems like something that absolutely shouldn't be happening.

I wonder if folks have wifi auto-connect turned on for providers like Xfinity or Verizon pole mounted hot spots, as your traveling through these locations your phone may try to connect to the service, interrupting the cell connection and in turn the Carplay app?

I originally had my android attempt to auto connect to Xfinity network and my home networks automatically, eventually I reset them to require my manual command to connect as the need arises, after doing this I had a drastic improvement in the performance of Android Auto, though initial startup still takes 30-60 seconds after that all is well.

Same thing happens to me near downtown Las Vegas. Specifically, (if there other Las Vegans here) at the 95S offramp to MLK.

I think it makes me feel better I am not alone with this problem.

(Wireless carplay... Maybe I will try wired the next time I drive into the office.)
