Were they both orders, or were they inventory vehicles?
I think I may have been quite common for the 22 Lightnings to sit on a storage lot for months after they rolled down the line, waiting for parts to become available.
My early 2023 Lightning seemed to flow right down the line, to shipping and delivery. For the 1st few months, I read on the Forums about updates and they were referring to features that my truck had loaded at delivery.
Ordered. And my MME GT was a mannequin but it was produced roughly 75 days before I took it home. It had to sit on the dealer's lot for 60 days due to the FCTP program. But I did drive it while it was there.

So have you seen this site? If you check the dates for when the OTA were released for the Lighting I think you'll find the first one rolled out in July of last year. 3.1.0

My truck was a first wave order and got delivered on 6 June 22. My first MME was also an order.
Thanks and that’s a very interesting site! I can now match up what the truck says it has with what others have noticed. We’ve only had the LT for 2 weeks so there’s that. I imagine there are several paths for OTA update schedules. Safety issues, efficiency , user interface experiences, etc. Our very 1st update was at the dealer about 2 months after the MME purchase.

Imagine the FORD customer service toll free lines and DM-Chat service exploding with customer contact requests if 100% of the target audience received a ~BAD~ update!

Hey Ford, If you are listening. Why do the consumers of your products have to buy scanners and dongles and other devices to get your products to work as intended? From what I understand, companies have been doing over the air updates for some time. Why wouldn't all Lariat Lightnings get the same updates all at the same time? Would you offer some sort of option to go to a ford dealership and have all the updates for the month downloaded manually? Just a thought.
Us solftware folks call this "canary deployment."

You're the canary.

If we "kill off" some early customers we know to roll the change back before it happens to all of you.

Do yourself a favor and turn off your auto-updates. Wait until you hear something good about one before you install it yourself.

The risk is that an OTA update has unintended consequences that don't become apparent until it's been pushed out to the field, and the drip feed approach reduces the risk of a fleet wide issue impacting all Lightnings at once.

Anyone who works in software development will tell you that no matter how well you test your product you can a) be sure that it's never enough and b) that there will always be issues that don't show up at all in testing but do the minute your release is pushed out to your end users. That's really all Ford is trying to manage.

As an aside with Forscan/FDRS etc you can identify and apply updates yourself, but, as always, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing so caveat emptor...
As someone who works in software development, I can tell you this is absolutely accurate. You never know, and cannot possibly test for, every scenario to which end-users will subject your code.

Eh - you can test it enough it is just that in most cases no one wants to wait that long or pay that much. Give me a team of 100 for 10 - 15 years to manually check every possible input variable, on every possible hardware configuration, error state, and system state, and then you can be sure of it.

Not worth it for 99%+ of applications.

They should be getting used to it. 😂

True. But as one of the people earlier commented, these updates are not coming from in house engineers but from a widely disparate independent groups that likely think their work is the most important. That has to have them stepping all over each other's code.

@Mike G

Are these trucks as problematic with OTA's as the ICE versions? My Mongoose loaner list on F150gen14 forums is almost at the end. Maybe I can start offering it to some of these guys?

Same reason Apple does not roll out updates all at the same time….it is to manage server capacity and quality control. 😊

@rugedraw. I would definitely be interested!
I have added you to the list here:

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...mming-vehicle-interface-lending-thread.13145/

Only two people ahead of you. Most people toward the end of the list have been waiting so long, they either resolved their problem already or just haven't responded to my message when I told them it was their turn. I have two Mongooses that I have been sending out, so it will not be long before I can get to you. Details of the process are in the first post of the linked thread.

Sorry...but are you saying that you expect to get OTAs in your '22 Lightning 9-10 months after the updates were rolled out, or is it 9-10 months after the truck was built,...and so far you haven't gotten any? Or am I misunderstanding what you're saying?
Our LT build was late May of this year-‘24. Four months out, no update yet. Possibly before Xmas but I’m not holding my breath. I suspect there’s a certain dynamic in software as time goes on. I’d rather have it well vetted that quicker.

Weirdly, I find some features work better on the LT than the MME, particularly HVAC efficiency.
