Anyone else having CarPlay issues after this update? My music will be playing, but I cannot hear it. Then CarPlay crashes and when it reconnects it works.

Also, I don’t have the Apple Maps EV routing yet, unless I don’t know how to enable it.

Update: I guess it just needed time. I opened Apple Maps again and it connected to my Lightning. EV rout planning now available. Guess I will be using Apple Maps now!

Ford has really dropped the ball on bc 1.3 and these new updates.

They are obviously having problems behind the scenes in getting the updates to work properly.

My guess is that they've completely lost track of what vehicles have what versions and the compatibility between versions.

I am in the last to get the random stable updates group and this last reupdate 6.2.0 made things unstable.

The fact that I can turn on the cameras at speed but have to slow below 10kmh to turn it off shows how poorly these are being handled.

Everything was fine, I only want the SOC displayed on the IC, but I can't have that, just more bugs to deal with.
I also want SOC in the instrument panel…but nope. Not sure what update will finally get me that.

Android auto, Spotify randomly drops sound, have to unplug and reconnect to get it to work, no crash per say.

Just got this update today. Noticed it after it reset my auto fold mirror reset. 6.2 was my last update before this one

It’s interesting that none of these updates have been a “cumulative” update to get everyone on the same playing field. I’ve got some recent ones like this priority update and 6.2 but am still missing some of the older ones such as the battery number on the gauge.

It sounds like there’s an incredible
number of module update combinations that people can be driving around with, and I’m sure that can wreak havoc on Fords ability to debug since each truck behaves slightly different

I won't explain it as well as others and may not get it 100%, but Ford's updates are not like Tesla or your home Computer. Tesla has 3 main computers and each update they bring the complete package - new updates and the old, you get a complete update, like your home computer or phone. The rest of the car is nothing more than simple switches, input devices, etc. None of them really smart - everything happens in the central computer.

Ford - every device is running its own code, each one independent - the Instrument Panel, The Gateway Module, The APIM, the door modules, the phone charger, the frunk controller, go on and on. The system in the truck doesn't seem to be capable of updating them all at once. They focus on a few of them with each update, or maybe only one. Some of them the code is huge and takes a while.

The Instrument Panel update that brought the SOC % - it was out for a while. If you didn't get it installed then it seems it falls off. Ford moves on to other updates like BC and 6.1, 6.2, 6.3. None of those seem to update the Instrument Panel again. So although you may be getting updates, you aren't going to get the SOC update until next time they need to update the code for the IP again. That may be 3 months. When they do that though - you'll get the older updates for the IP bundled in and you'll get the SOC%.

Having said all of that I'm not making excuses for Ford. They need to go back and push older updates more often (or maybe they are pulled for eventual bugs found) but they have to be able to do this better and quicker.

Ford really needs to prioritize following good standards for software development (and UX/UI design) if they want to compete with Tesla and Rivian.

Ford really needs to prioritize following good standards for software development (and UX/UI design) if they want to compete with Tesla and Rivian.
They claim it is coming on the newly designed truck. You have to remember this is their cobbled together architecture that started 10 to 15 years ago with Sync. They just kept adding to it. Sync updates used to be by USB stick only 10 years ago. I believe 2015 brought some OTA updates with their aluminum body redesign and connected truck.

They just kept adding on top of it from there. They have truly surprised me at the kind of updates they have been able to produce, but they just need to polish this thing and be a bit better on their timing.

The new truck is supposed to be integrated top down, have a central computer and complete different architecture. They've learned the hard way, but are moving away from it.

I've wondered if Ford built at least some of our trucks in a catch-as-catch-can way with the chip shortage, i.e., some of us have Brand X CMOS chips (or whatever) for some controllers, whereas others have Brand Y CMOS chips. So Ford can't have a universal update for all Lightnings but has to have waves of updates that accommodate different truck builds. It might just be incredibly stupid speculation on my part, but I'm wondering if Ford painted itself into a corner by trying to make do with whatever (reasonable) chips it could come up with during the chip shortage in order to make and sell EV trucks to keep a lead over its competitors "at all costs.".

Still waiting for 6.1 so I guess I don't need to worry about this one. :confused:
I am still waiting for any updates…. am I willing to look at the Cyberturd in my driveway for regular updates….not a chance. I will begrudgingly wait happily 😉😊

Meanwhile, I still have zero updates and am on revision 640 (Sync 4, 12" screen).

Can someone tell me what the latest version of Sync 4 (12" screen) on the Lightning? I want to ask the dealership to perform an update in an upcoming service visit.
I am a MY 23 XLT and still on the 640. My conversion with Ford specialists is no updates had been released for 2023 as of my conversion. All the early adopters seem to get the fun and gremlins for us late comers🤣😂

Well explained. I’ll add that Ford is not the one writing these module updates. Each one is made by a third party supplier who does things their own way. If there’s a problem or a feature needed Ford has to wait for the module supplier to provide the code.

Farley also mentions the software will be built in house for 2nd gen, which I assume means a more centralized computing model like Tesla has today.

This was extremely informative. Thanks. I've been frustrated with the haphazard way these updates seem to happen and particularly when a certain feature (SOC - which is one of the most desired for me) doesn't ever show up while I seem at the front of the line for others.

Your explanation is the first time I've seen this in terms of how it works. As you said, it's not a valid excuse for the experience, but it explains a lot.

Good explanation. I'll add that this is also why there is no real good answer when folks ask how they find out what version they are on. That gets asks multiple times per week. The answer as you allude to is there isn't a single version number. Each module has their own. Just look at the FDRS thread where Mike and others post updates needed by VIN. They are mostly different.

The only one that is noticeable is Sync. You can display a version number for it. And it sometimes correlates with new features like the new UI back in January. But other features - like the coveted SOC display - are unrelated to Sync version.
