sw engineering manager,
If it was desired, there’s a more options..

1) Inside the bed, the worst option possible.

2) Into the bumper. Expand the trailer pin slot to also accommodate a charge port door as well.

3) Into the tailgate. Flap door next to the tailgate step for a vertical plug in.

As a truck I prefer to back into the charger but Ford may have intentionally placed it up front to accommodate charging with something in tow.

4) The Ford logo is large enough, perhaps a flip up logo with the connector underneath it.
I was talking about the difficulty of adding retrofit locations for existing trucks in regards to another poster indicating they would only want NACS retrofitted as a fully-integrated thing into their existing truck. My discussion was hypothetical - I doubt that level of retrofit is going to be something Ford supplies.

If they did, it would need to be a location not requiring replacement of a whole body panel.
Another possible location might be under the Frunk hood somewhere. But leaving your frunk open with vehicle unattended during charging doesn't seem like the best idea if you have any valuable cargo in there.

I think the real world answer is going to be the adapter for most people. It will be able to reach by parking in the next slot over from the end slot, or pulling up to the chargers from the other side, or just using two slots when the chargers are not busy.

For frequent road trippers, an additional DC extension would solve the problem of reach. But that is likely going to cost another few hundred $.

I would implore A2Z to build a version of their adapter with the extension built-in, but even that is going to be significantly more expensive than just a one piece adapter.

Nothing needs to be done with the vehicle's software. Majic Dock simple includes a CSS connector in addition to the NACS connector. Currently All CSS equipped vehicles can use a Magic Dock.

You just need to install the Tesla APP on your smartphone, create an account to be billed and use the APP to activate the charger.
I'm imagining that it's going to plug n charge (like EA) or activated via the FordPass app. I couldn't really see Tesla making Ford and GM go through their app. Ford tends to gatekeep "convenience" and locking us to higher EA rates due to ease of use and people don't want 15 charge providers apps on their phones. Hopefully we'll hear something concrete soon from Ford/Tesla that puts a real date out there instead of the City council meeting lol

I saw a listing for a 10-ft CCS-1 extension cable. It says it can be pre-orderd for for $599. I am just letting just letting people know they are starting to appear online. I have no other information on them.

Without any technical specifications provided, I would never buy this. This is a fire or possible death waiting to happen.

One "problem" I see with an extension cable adapter is the length being "too" long and it could touch the ground, causing problems, especially if it's raining.

I agree with you 100%. I would not buy it either, but I bet over next couple of months we see a lot more of these pop up and they will most likely get cheaper and cheaper. Not a good thing!

Buyer beware!!

I would love to see real evidence that a DCFC cable touching the ground has been a problem - in the rain or on a train.

The point I'm making is the adapter, between NACS male-female, not having adequate seal. And nothing to do with conductor insulation.

There is new information on the A2Z website. The website now says shipping of the adapters will start on the 5th of January, shipping will be from Montreal, Canada and the adapters will work with V3 and V4 Tesla Superchargers. Maybe we will get some official word soon from Ford or Tesla on when the Superchargers will open up.
Is it UL Listed?

My understanding is that there isn't currently a ul standard to test DCFC cables and adapters against. So no I would think they would not be ul listed. If you know of a ul standard that these can be tested against let us know.

Tesla needs to turn on the ability to initiate charging. I’m looking in the Tesla app right now under “charger your no-Tesla vehicle”, the only SCs that show available (at least in Texas) are the ones with the magic dock (in Arlington). There are a ton more V3 SCs that should show up if you were going to be able use the AtoZ.
