Check the cost of a burnt out headlight or taillight.
LEDs don’t “burn out” like incandescent bulbs; they should last the life of the vehicle. And if/when they break years down the road, the aftermarket will have lots of options that are far below the current cost. Exterior lighting is almost always involved with collision repair, so there will be a healthy selection if/when the time comes.

You hear of the occasional anecdote where they pay off, but the overwhelming majority of them don’t. If they did, the actuaries who calculate the warranty price sucked at their job. Extended warranties are profit centers, otherwise they wouldn’t be sold.

Going back on-topic, ESPs are irrelevant because they don’t cover the high voltage battery. They’re only useful for the drive motors if you buy an ESP that goes past 100K miles. We’ve seen hundreds of module failures, but have we seen even a single drive motor failure? That’s the last component I’d be worried about.

Of course they're profit centers. But isn't insurance also? Yet, most feel more comfortable with it.

I purchased 7 year 150,000 mile warranty with a $200 deductible. It was like ~2000

The reason I set my deductible so high is because I absolutely do not expect to use it, but when/if I do.. I won't be worried about $200. I'll be worried about a $2000-$3000 electronic failure or sunroof issue etc.

So many electronic motors on this thing. Windows, mirrors, running boards, etc. So many chances for failure.

Another reason for the warranty that many don't understand, is you are not legally entitled to a loaner car when you car is in the shop getting warranty work. The ESP ensures that you will get one.

The loaners people get without an ESP come from the Dealer and are given at dealer discretion. Since I never buy my cars from local dealers, they aren't too keen on giving me loaners.

I agree with that, and this may be one of the best reasons to get one:

I think Ford has a policy encouraging dealers to provide loaners, and I know they pay for them under certain circumstances. But there’s nothing in any factory warranty that guarantees you access to one, so we can be turned down.

I bought mine as a Ford certified EV, and a guaranteed rental car was one of the biggest selling points for me.

Only one that I recall being reported on the forum, one of those 1 in a million situations, have not seen any more reports since then.

Just bought a new lightning to replace my previous lightning yesterday. Anyone know if 23B57 should have been performed before they sold it to me? Does ford not have a stop sell order on new on lot lightnings that have not had the 23B57 performed yet????
I am a bit upset at dealership to say the least for not having done this yet before the sale based on my previous lightning experiences…. I was told all updates and recalls had been done on vehicle as of yesterdays date. Obviously I did not find out this until this am when I called service department and gave them my vin to double check what the app was showing. Seriously?
Dealership purchased from is couple hundred miles from where I live. Not going to be convenient for me at all…!!!!!
I’m still researching….

If the Fordpass app is still showing the CSP alert, that's doesn't mean they did not perform the update, many of us still show the alert, while a very small handful of members have seen it disappear, IMHO they are the exception.

Yes, it should have. I was in the same position when I bought my truck certified used from the largest Ford dealer in my state. I found out after getting it home the update hadn’t been done, and I was pissed. I had a 14-day return policy with the Ford certification, and I was going to return it if I had a module failure code. It went back for 23B57 the following week, and the module failure didn’t happen until a few months later.

I would be just as pissed off in your shoes. BUT your new truck should have much more recent build than your old, so hopefully the battery gremlins aren’t something you’ll have to deal with.

I’d suggest calling Ford’s customer service line, opening a case, and getting it in for that update.

Thanks I called service and they said they wait until sold so it can be billed on warranty, really? I now know.
23B57 has NOT been done and has outstanding sync update they did not Install either… 23B??
Day 2 of new lightning ownership now…
Learn something new every day. Ugh!! 😩

I don’t think there’s any reason to buy an ESP on the Lightning. The expensive HV electrical bits are covered for 100K miles by the factory warranty, to include the drive motors. If you spend any time on other EV forums, you’ll see how rare they are to fail. That’s the last thing I’d worry about on a Lightning, and the HV battery warranty can’t be extended.

Extended warranties are a waste of money unless they cover the HV battery, and Ford doesn’t offer one that does.

So where does the cooling system for the battery fits in here? It seems like it is leaving it to interpretation.

My Pro still shows this CSP active even though it was done months ago along with our other truck at the same time.
Its finger pointing between the dealer and @Ford Motor Company as to who should clear it from my trucks account.
Finally got an advisor today that admitted it was their oversight. But now they have to come back out to the house to "update" the software again so they can clear the program from the computer and app.

I hope they don't find anything 🤞

We all know that Dealer service centers don't know their asses from their elbows when it comes to the Lightning. The mobile service guys, on the other hand, seem to actually understand things, or at least are better at explaining them in ways that make sens.e

As per my mobile tech guy: 23B57 stays active because of the "and/or" part. Primary action for it is the BECM update. This is what most of us got out of this CSP, but this alone will not clear the CSP because the "and/or" of "HVB module replacement". The BECM update needs to be in place for awhile before they can rule out your need of a HVB Module needing to be replaced, so they have to leave the CSP open else if the module did need to be replaced it's a much bigger paperwork PITA.

Not sure of the accuracy of this, but the logic seems right, and the mobile tech actually seemed capable, so I'm choosing to believe it.

Did a check on my app, and it has cleared. Used the same dealer as @LUXMAN.
