The driver was the fleet manager for the local fire department (county? municipality? I cannot remember). He requested a Lightning (good move!) and with incentives/rebates it was cheaper than a similarly-equipped gas F150. His colleagues don't seem to understand the appeal, he says, but I thought it is a fantastic use-case for these EV trucks.

Now he just needs to add a L2 charger to the station so he doesn't have to take it over to Wal-mart and waste the city's tax dollars on EA!

Yep, even if it's an SR, what's the farthest this truck needs to ever drive in one go? The next town over for a multi-alarm fire? And it can always be sitting waiting at the station with ~85% ready to go.

Our local city has four or five. The fire department has two and the rest are allocated to other departments. The County has one as well
It’s a near perfect use case. The only other thing it’s better for is local PD. Lots of sitting there idling…

yes! The county has a couple E-Transits that came back from the outfitters last month. The city has a quarter of their fleet either electric or hybrid and electric with the county slowly catching on.

When my L2 charger was installed, our municipal electric GM came by with the team to shut the power from the street while my electrician set up a new meter right from the street (long story, but I have a solar co-gen program rate on my house meter, and needed to install a new meter for the EV rate AND to pull amps from the street instead of through my basement panel.)

Anyway, he checked out my Lightning and then shortly after he got one for their fleet!

I dont know what is more surprising, that they are ordering Lariats or that they go to the trouble of removing a rather small, camoflauged and obscure badge that most people dont even notice. Interesting for sure.

Seems odd though. If it was Lariat, where is the front light bar. It looks more like a Pro to me.
