Average temperature around here for the next three months are below 10 below

Ive made excuses to keep this since I’ve got it. Honestly it’s time to admit I was wrong. 1 mile per percent 🫡

Not necessarily saying it's good, but it says right there 1.2 mi/kwh. That's not 1 mile per percent, and would give you a range in these conditions of 157 miles.

At those temps, Level 1 is useless to precondition the battery. You really need a Level 2 setup, it's easy to do and would make a big difference in conjunction using the departure time scheduling (doesn't have to be exact time, setting it at 5am will help a ton if you leave at 9am).

Edit: I see you recently got a cheap L2 charger, it's a start but I am not sure that's dependable.... get a used / open box Grizzle or Tesla charger at least. Is preconditioning not working out for you?

Are you preconditioning the battery while on L2 power? Because the battery is really not going to like being cold soaked to -10 all the time when it comes to range.
I left a hockey game 50 miles from home that I was at for three hours and hit a fast charger for 15 minutes before we left and took it up to 50 percent. What more could I have done?!?!? The battery was already as warm as I ever see it get at these temps. I am well aware that it doesn’t perform well in cold temperatures, but this is worse than having a 20 foot camper hooked to it going uphill. And as far as cold, temps go this ain’t nothing yet.

Don't feel like the you are the only one or doing something wrong. I watch the same numbers in those temps. Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast. There is a reason the Lighting production line is taking a break.

I know I can’t be the only one, but if I can’t count on this thing to in an emergency to take me 80 miles when it’s cold out, say a kid gets hurt or something. She’s gotta go. Any takers?

If you want to keep it, maybe look at adding a fuel based heater to the coolant loop to warm the batteries. Other people here have done it and it works to restore range. You live in a pretty harsh climate, doing a winterization customization might make sense.

-10F is going to eat 30% of range (probably) and adding heavy heater use on top is another 15% (probably).

Honestly, a generator based range extender makes a lot of sense for EVs. In extreme cold, the heat from the range extender can be used to warm the batteries (and people). You only need a 100HP engine to get infinite range extension (with gas stops of course).

You drove to the hockey game when it was cold, thereby learning the efficiency you would get on the way home. You charged to 50%, roughly 65kWh, which at 1.2 miles would get you 78 miles. If getting home was more than 53 miles away, you should have charged more. That would give you a 25 mph safety margin.

You also did a 1,000 mile trip in cold weather. If that didn't teach you about the vehicle, and what level of charge you'd need to safely get home, I agree, it's gotta go - you bought the wrong vehicle for you.

If you really loved the truck, you would move to Florida instead of getting rid of it or wait a few years so your state get a little more toasty. Kidding aside, I don’t see that kind of Temps, my winter drives are short and I have a backup ICE so I can’t judge but I hope you keep it.

Rick….. I am fully capable of making sure I have enough charge at any given time on a PLANNED trip but 1 mile per1% no matter how you plan it is still unacceptable. I don’t look at the range. I look at the percent and that’s what I use. I know I need so much percent for so much. And as I’ve said multiple times now. This ain’t cold!!! We’re just scratching the surface here so I’m assuming that eventually it will be half a mile per one percent. And with the nearest town being 45 miles away from me, any kind of emergency situation this just will not work. And it would be moronic me to continue to try.

imagine after leaving home with a 100% charged battery and going to a hospital 45 miles away for an emergency room visit after getting stitched up and dealing with all the hassle of that you go “oh shoot I gotta hit a charger just to make it home” it’s not about it being the wrong truck for me. It’s the wrong truck for anybody that experiences what I would call a real winter.

Then what happens if a 40 mile an hour wind picks up halfway home all of a sudden what was enough charge to get home aint enough charge to get to the next turn.

I drove a brand new F150 ice while this was at the dealer super nice truck, but I did not like it….I love my lightning, but sometimes you gotta love them and leave them I guess
