It's not needed. The update is only for plug and charge. Someone already charged today with the A2Z adapter and without this update.

I think it'll work since even today without the Lightning software update but with the A2Z adapter, plug and charge doesn't work but selecting the station from the Tesla app and charging like that does work, just like the MagicDock. So I think it'll work...

The question is if the A2Z adapter also works with non-Fords. Since many Fords don't have the Supercharger software update yet anyway then if it works without it then I'd imagine it'll work with non-Fords.

I'd wager non-Fords can also charge from today using that adapter

The silly thing is that after enabling this, I got in my ICE vehicle and did some navigating with Apple Maps (not even connected to CarPlay in that vehicle) and it still showed me estimated battery percentage on arrival and charger stations. You would think it would know what vehicle it's in...
