When compared to what’s involved with an ICE vehicle it’s still pretty amazing to see how essentially just this pack and the two motors make this truck drive. https://www.thedrive.com/tech/40676/electric-ford-f-150-lightnings-battery-weighs-over-1800-pounds-by-itself
I’ve only just started poking around with it. It was around $60-70 I think so I figured what the heck, I’ll try this. To someone’s earlier question, this covers the F150 Lightning specifically because when you purchase, they ask for your VIN which indicates you have a BEV. So the manual is built...
I’ll check out these videos thanks. Do you know if someone were to tread deep water higher than these vents if that would cause water intrusion? Or are the vents one-way?
Also in the wheels fall off club. Every vehicle I’ve owned for 10-15 years. So I took a risk on new technology with this purchase and I’m hoping it lasts.
That might be the reason behind the change. Here's a picture of the late 2023 vent valves in the back of the battery pack. I do wonder if water intrusion is a concern with any of these vents but it seems they are one-way to relieve internal pressure.
So I decided to buy a service manual for the Lightning from factory-manuals.com and I'll say it's pretty comprehensive. They ask for your VIN and it's embedded in the file so I'm not at liberty to share any parts of it. However, when I was looking at the procedure to replace a high voltage...
was hoping I didn't have to replace it since that likely means waiting without an adapter. But my Ford adapter is allegedly arriving this month finally.
From what I’ve read about this issue (it’s the thing I fear most) it seems somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-4% of lightnings could have this issue. I have no data to back this up though, only Ford would. There’s a nice video on YouTube that shows how the module is diagnosed as bad, how it is...
This is my rationale as well. I’d rather someone just unplug it vs realizing it’s locked and then trying to yank or smash it out destroying the port.
Is there also a chance Ford is going to introduce some kind of mid cycle change to the Lightnings being built in 2025? And taking the assembly offline for a few months allows them to set that up?
