Or they didn't use one at all, or hooked it up directly to the battery posts instead of downstream of the BMS sensor.
Why ever it happened, they did something wrong.
You might message Brian @Ford Motor Company with that dealership info so they can be contacted and helped if they haven't been...
Yes, well ideally no water should even get past the seals.
There was a recall on the sun/moon roofs on some Lightnings as I recall.
I was once drenched by my old 1968 Peugeot 404 "sun roof" clogged drain tubes had to be cleaned frequently, and even after getting the debris out (vinegar, Clorox...
Federal law and regulations require EVs and hybrids make some sound at low speeds or when in reverse, to alert and protect pedestrians, bicyclists, etc., especially blind pedestrians who rely on sound to know if it is safe to cross the street for example, who may not otherwise hear you coming...
Not practical or worth the price.
If we didn't have PPOB on our trucks, maybe it could be useful...if coupled with a large enough battery storage system.
When mobile service came to my house in March 2026 to do the trailer module reprogramming update, I asked if he was going to hook up a power supply.
He said he would not need to.
When he was done he said he also did another update that the truck needed.
During the conversation we had about...
Oh yeah, dang, I forgot that the noise was from the rear, had it confused with a different post with noise from the front I guess. My bad.
I struck through it now.
Another possibility would be some cooling system pump failure making the noise as it eats bearing due to a stuck valve in the loop...not sure that would correct itself though and it wouldn't account for the comm issues just the noise.
Sorry had it confused with a different post.
Congrats.
It depends a lot on how often you drive, how long your trips are, how often you charge the truck, etc.
They are only a 3 year battery to begin with.
With 69k miles you obviously drive the truck a lot - maybe on trips longer than 30 minutes?
I don't drive every day, and most of my...
Good point.
BTW I try to keep my 12v battery SOC at 100% by keeping it on a low current maintainer with an AGM mode (NOCO GENIUS1) when ever I am not using the truck so I can get more than the 3 year warranty out of it and not have a bunch of error messages pop up or worse get stranded.
Once in a while I'm right about something, hurray for me! lol :)
But only because i have a good memory and saw that on THIS FORUM where we share our experiences with the trucks.
So really, the forum deserves the credit.
I sympathize...what a bad time to have to drive a gas guzzler!
Maybe hit them up for some gas money reimbursement?
The same coolant is used for heating and cooling the battery, so winter or summer, it is needed.
I think the owner's manual says to check it once a month. I never saw mine...
Aha...
Welcome to the world of EVs!
All that info can come in handy when you need it...I never really have, but I'm sure there are others on the forum who find it useful. :)
Just occurred to me - I assume it has enough coolant in the system?
Low or absent coolant could also lead to noise I suppose.
There have been some leaks reported.
I check my cooling fluid one a month just in case.
Sometimes when things are that loud and there are a lot of moving parts it can be challenging to pin point the exact location by ear.
That sound does remind me of a compressor motor with bad or over worked bearings.
I remember an old Chrysler we had that would make awful loud noises every time...
One reason why I use the 'Calm Screen' - I'd rather be worrying about the other bozos on the road that fretting over all those vehicle metrics...but I understand the concern especially if this is the first EV one has owned, or the first Ford EV.
Nothing like regenerative braking to make one's day!
Here another fun 'fluke' I don't know if anyone has seen in their lightnings:
A couple times in my 2012 Leaf I left the house to run errand with a certain guess-o-meter range, say 50 miles, and during the run, I start out on the flat...
