The SR lightning without max tow is identical to the SR lightning with max tow except for the presence of an additional cooling loop, which adds 2,700 lbs to the tow rating.
It seems like the most danger if a regular SR tows 7700lbs is the battery getting too hot and you need to slow down? I...
The camper towed amazingly well. No issues whatsoever. Tried using the tow tech backup assist but it kept giving errors while calibrating so I gave up.
The estimated range was 118 miles on a full charge. The battery temperature on the dash didn't change at all. We picked it up in the evening...
Thanks, yeah, the trailer rental website is labelled as 5700lbs, but I'm carrying about 1000lbs in passengers and cargo. I should have been more clear.
I have the tow tech package, which I believe comes with the brake controller.
Good to hear you've had success towing over recommended...
Thanks for this. That's what I deduced as well.
Another high heat scenario I presume is if the battery is DC Fast charged while towing, so I'll watch out for that too.
When I get the camper I'll do some tests and report back to this thread.
Interesting. Is there any documentation I can further research regarding this?
So essentially if you leave the AC off, then the cooling for the batteries is the same between SR with / without max tow?
Thanks, I'll have to investigate the insurance issue as that seems like the most serious issue with exceeding the rating.
I wonder if Ford just made these tow ratings to encourage buyers to purchase higher end trim packages. I can see the logic behind your vehicle overheating less if it has...
Do you have an ER or an SR? Because the ER without max tow has a rating of 7700lbs, so you're still well within acceptable rating.
(Edit: Nevermind, just saw your response on my other thread! Maybe Ford just created these ratings to encourage buyers to purchase the higher-end models.)
Hey all -
I rented a 6500-7000lb trailer for a camping trip for a few days. I planned to tow it about 80 miles to a campsite with my Lariat SR (no max tow). It will be over flat terrain, about 86 degrees F.
Given my vehicle tow max rating is 5000lbs, is there anything I should look out for...
Does anyone have experience or trip reports doing this? I have a Lariat SR with Tow Tech, but no max tow. Planning on towing a 6500lbs camper about 80 miles, flat terrain, about 86 degrees F.
Is this extremely reckless? or no big deal?
Got in. There are extensions for Chrome that allow you to auto-refresh and stop when a string of text is displayed. "Auto Refresh Plus | Page Monitor" worked for me.
Does anyone know if this Supercharger adapter will work for destination chargers, too? I already bought one of those adapters...
Thanks! But are you sure the Webasto adapters work with the Ford branded EVSE?
I know they are virtually identical, but I did read reports that other connectors aren't interchangeable between the two chargers:
Hey guys - just bought a lightning used and it's missing the 240v dongle for the mobile charger. It just has the 120V dongle.
Anyone selling just the NEMA 14-50 connector? I'm located in Ontario, Canada.
