I bought a 40 amp charger at my local Goodwill Store several months ago for $80 and it has worked like a charm. My Lightning did not come with the $500 charger cable thank goodness.
I plan on keeping it for at least ten years. The combination of the 9.6kw PPOB, 98 kw battery, and my home solar system makes my Lightning XLT extremely useful for years to come. Plus to be able to drive whenever I want to is the icing on top, a great driving vehicle.
I have a NEMA 14 50 240 plug that is powered by my 7kw solar system. If you had something like that you could charge the truck with your excess solar. I have charged my Lightning at 4kw/16 amp while powering a 240 load off the PPOB 240 generator connector.
It is great to know the truck handled...
I bought my qualifying 2023 Lightning 1-5-24 and asked the dealer repeatedly for all tax forms I needed. They finally sent me some forms the first week of February but not this form.
I use my PBOB 240v outlet to charge my 17kw Volvo hybrid overnight and then charge my Lightning during the day from my excess solar output. I have also used it a few times for other things and have it set up to power one of my panels if need be.
PBOB that includes the bed outlets (240V) was a $1200 option on my 23 XLT Lightning. I looked at several Lightnings that did not have the 240V bed outlet.
About two years ago I had a 7kw solar system installed with a 9kw backup battery and a 12k Solark inverter. I knew I would eventually have EV's so I had the company install one grid NEMA 14 50 outlet. Then the Solark inverter has a Smartload connection that can be configured as a generator...
That adapter is for Pro Power Onboard assuming your truck has that option, I have used it to charge my Volvo from the PPOB in the bed of the truck. One end is a 4 prong male generator/truckbed connection the other is female 14/50 to be plugged into it.
Is it possible to limit the cabin outlets to around 400 watts/3-4 amps while the truck is parked? I have pro-power onboard, but just asking about cabin outlets and without purchasing any external products.
I did not receive the form and cannot get it so far. Myself and my truck fully qualify for the tax credit and I supplied the dealer all info to have the credit applied at time of purchase. They did give me a $7,500 so called rebate but will not give me the IRS required paperwork. Come next...
