I would like to remove this piece so that it's easier to fit a mattress in the back on top the seats for an upcoming trip. Has anyone done it or know how it's done? Thanks!
Interesting, will have to check that out! I saw another guy who did the cannonball run on his Tesla charging only off solar. He had something like 5.7kw of flexible panels in the trunk and a charge inverter. Every 2 or 3 days he would fill up and continue on his trip lol.
Yeah, the apterra...
Yeah agreed on the manufacturers including it, it would be awesome if every surface was capable of harvesting energy, I bet with the footprint of the truck the energy produced would be double or triple my setup.
Umm I plead the fifth...
I did put prices in the video then stopped counting lol
It was probably under 1k total with fridge and all before I decided to upgrade the batteries
Hey guys, excited to show off my recent project, solar panels on a tonneau cover!
Happy to answer any questions. I get 2+ kWh a day and now always have cold drinks wherever I go!
It will work you just have to manage your loads as you're already aware. Charging the truck won't work though since you can only get 7.2kw out of the outlet, in fact if you can generate more than 7.2kw of solar it would get dangerous or trip your transfer switch. Maybe you can rig something up...
When I got batteries they had to bring everything to code in my garage, they put a heat detector in, with xsense wireless interconnected smoke detectors inside the house. The electricians said a smoke detector would trip more often just because of how hot a garage can get.
Yes I also carry a portable power station when I bring these portable fridges now. Plug it into the 12v outlet on the battery, then use a USB c charger to charge up the battery. If I forget to turn on pro power the battery should still last for a while.
Lol that's awesome. Your story actually caused me to look up more details on how that all works internally, and now I'm wondering if I can just get a rectifier and plug it in to the MPPT ports of the Powerwall. I would need to find a way to current limit it though, and I'm still not sure if it...
I wanted to get this working during an emergency, I don't use it day to day. But if I did at most I would use it for the 6 hours when electricity is more expensive and then I'll recharge at night. It would only lose about 10% in those 6 hours.
Also something interesting, JerryRigEverything...
I have a few cheap ones from amazon that work great, you push a button to adjust amperage. They all work the same so just pick the cheapest you can find.
Yes it's very convoluted, hopefully one day non sunrun/ford proprietary V2H systems exist... I'm banking on powershare being a standard for future EVs which would be nice since it will work out of the box with powerwalls.. but we shall see
This system poses no risk to line workers with or...
Interesting, I'm looking into it but am not sure how it would integrate with the powerwalls? Maybe if I continue to use the inverter with the DC output of the chargeverter? What were you thinking?
I see no reason why this would void the warranty, it shouldn't even leave a trace. It would be...
I saw an article (more like read a headline if I'm being honest) that said that discharging the battery at high rates occasionally can be good for it. Sadly I can't find the link
So I like to think of that each time I step on it :)
It just plugs into an outlet that is backed up (my whole house is backed up by the powrwalls). I actually have two inverters that I plug into outlets on different legs, but it should still work if everything is only plugged into one leg (someone I was chatting wtih on reddit confirms that's how...
If the idle usage is low it shuts down no matter what you tell it...
So if you have a fridge or something that cycles it may never turn back on sadly with how Ford implemented things
Hello all,
I recently got Tesla Powerwall 3s which are great, but on weekdays I usually dump the batteries at peak hours and I can only recharge them the next day via solar. I'm worried about outages that may occur when the battery is low and the sun isn't shining. Turns out there is a way...
