My .02 if I was in your shoe, YMMV:
-If not a daily driver than, PB...
-Longer drive w/o filling often, EB...
-Heavy Dutier frame i.e. HDDP, EB...
-Slightly better MPG, EB...
-Boondock often?, PB...
At the end of the day, for me EB makes more sense. Really depends on your usage, safe travels!
Too many variable and w/o real payload number but IMHO the 25 should be fine but for me that's a bit too close based on the amount of us 4 family, the dog and stuff that goes in the bed. Without knowing how you camp, just try not to load up the PB with options or that payload will surely go...
As I mentioned previously lots of variations and options and endless opinion. At the end of the day you get to make the educated decisions and decide what's best for you. We're here to provide guidance and experience so take it with a grain of salt ;) Of course there's folks like Norris there...
The 23 AS is considered one of the heaviest tongue weight of all the line up. If you know how to manage your weights and minimize stuff off of the truck place most of them all in the trailer that will help significantly. Lot's of options and variables so you just need to know where to...
Never assume tongue weight, so either you weigh it yourself or go to the scale. NEVER trust any dealer and its best to test his knowledge so if you know your stuff you should quiz your dealer about payload, GVWR, WD and how it works and most importantly the difference between towing and hauling...
I concur that some if not most of the best sites are generally boondocks regardless where its located and that is our goal in a few years. How one boondocks is very subjective therefore only you will know how much power, water, etc, you will consume when you're out there. The PB is awesome...
+1 on premium (with or w/o towing) and as mentioned above the manual does state to use premium when towing. I have on a few occasion compared both regular and premium and I do 'feel' the premium appears to provide better performance. Although its my daily driver I and for towing I don't fill...
I manually disable 9th and 10th gear, thus locking them out. I'm no expert but as I understand it the EB powerband is best at about 2500rpm. Camp sites here are taken up so fast it's not even funny. We are slowly moving towards boondocking but still teaching the kiddos to learn the word...
Thanks for the follow up. My EB gives me about 12-14 mpg (dependent on hills and we got lots of them here in Oregon) however I do lock out 9 and 10 (sometimes 8 to keep the RPM ~2500). I also have a 23 Airstream however I can see that your have the FB model vs my RB version. I can't wait to...
Pretty much sums it up. Folks like me/us that uses our truck as a daily driver (office worker) and occasional tow recreationally (6-8 times a year) don't need anything beyond a 250. HDPP pretty much tops the 150 as far as beefiness, but you have to compromise bells and whistles to get the max...
Heavy Duty Payload Package: thicker frame and additional leaf on the rear. This option has been recently trimmed down to XL, XLT and a few Lariat unlike previous year you can get it on higher trim, but don't quote on me :) HDPP is the best payload option to have before moving up to the...
This is a nice thread, most helpful for RV'ers. I am still contemplating on getting a PB for a few reasons and one of those are reasons are payload. I currently have a 2017 XLT w/ HDPP so my payload is at 2541 and so far I have not seen any near north of 2000. A family of 4, plus the dog and...
