I've had my 21' Lariat PB now for just over 6 months. I haven't towed too much with it yet, but I have pulled a couple of different things.
First was my 23' 14k tilt deck trailer hauling my T770 Bobcat. 12,000+ pounds. Pulled it on short (10-15 mile) runs around the farm in the late fall...
I have little doubt that, at some point, there will be an EV version of everything that Ford currently offers.
But...it won't all happen overnight.
Charging Infrastructure/tech, battery tech...we just aren't there yet to just flip a switch and have everything jump to EV's. Granted...
Has anyone had something like this happen to them?
Every once in awhile, I'll start up my truck and plug in my phone with one of the USB-C ports. At that time, sometimes completely randomly, the Sync system will switch from playing the regular radio to run the iHeart Radio app on my iphone...
When calculating tow ratings, you should never expect to pull right up to the limits. Ideally, you want a little headroom for NORMAL conditions.
Now, I live on a farm. I tow things that are well over the ratings of my half ton truck at least a few times every year.
10,000lb Bobcat skid steer...
Who in their right minds thinks an half ton truck will tow as well as a three quarter or a ton truck? Those trucks are designed with larger cooling and other systems to handle the larger loads.
Yes, technically the PB is rated to pull up to that much weight. But if you put ANY truck towards...
Do solar farms count? (I know, not much help at night) They are working at putting in a 1500 acre solar farm just a few minutes away from me on reclaimed coal mine ground...
As long as you don't live in Texas, you should be fine.
I'm starting to think that the power company's are already starting to prepare for this EV future. The past several months they have been updating the rural power lines in the area where I live in Indiana. Several miles of new poles placed...
I thought I read somewhere that the trailer detection was based on trailer brakes....
And well...after looking at the online user manual for 2021 trucks...maybe they did away with a lot of the relays? Either that...or this online manual is really thin on info.
*If* I do get my truck this week...
Did you check to see if you have the relay installed for trailer power? I can’t say if the current trucks now include that relay, but I haven’t seen a truck yet with one from the factory.
If you are on the road and in a pinch, you could use the relay from from the rear window defroster...
About the only time I don’t use WDH is if I’m just moving an empty trailer around.
Now, I don’t have a WDH for my 14k tilt flatbed that I use to move around my Bobcat skid steer. But I don’t get really up to highway speeds and the most I may go is 5-10 miles at most on secondary roads. For...
My 2014 F-150 wouldn't send power to the plug if it didn't detect a trailer. Something about it if it doesn't detect brakes, then it doesn't think there is a trailer there. If I remember right, I had to change a setting in the dash to force it to acknowledge the trailer I was pulling...
