Just verified the tow mirrors are now available as an accessory through Ford. $750 manual fold, manual telescope with BLIS (Blind Spot), and 360 Camera
3.5 ecoboost towing a 5500 lb travel trailer. I am getting about 9.5 mpg on average. I have seen 7 mpg and 11 mpg depending on if i drive aggressive or not.
I have not. Been in 40+ mph gusts and had to make adjustments. Also got up to 85 mph for a bit just to see how it handled. No issues at all. I do load everything in the front of the trailer to keep the back light. It moves back there but wouldn't consider it sway.
The problem isn't the trucks or their size. In my opinion ford failed on the hitch. Its only rated for 500lbs tongue weight. You can buy an after market with much higher tongue weight load. Using the WDH spreads the weight efficiently. Second is the antisway. Size of a truck won't change that...
For travel trailers the tongue weight advertised is way off. Propane tank and battery are added by the dealers and that alone is at least 100 lbs. If there's an electronic tongue jack another 30 lbs. Second propane tank add another 37 lbs. See where I'm going with this lol. Also for true travel...
By no means am I an expert however here is my thought on disabling Fords anti sway.
Andersons anti sway is passive vs fords active sway control. The hitch uses friction to prevent sway from starting. The trucks active sway will correct if the trailer begins to sway. Seems to me keeping it...
I thought the same thing. Tried to order from the dealer and they couldn't complete the order. He said its because Ford is blocking them as an accessory. Apparently this is common on new models. Its a waiting game right now.
Keep in mind the $700 pair has power adjustment. Just doesn't have power fold. If your truck isn't set up for power folding option your paying extra for the chrome caps.
FYI on 2021 tow mirrors. Can't buy them as they aren't available as an accessory yet. Parts guy at dealership and me spent a couple hours looking and reading specs. Still too new to be available. He did say that when available they will knock down the price $100-200 at the dealership
Part #...
That seems odd. I need to look at my truck now. My tacoma i just traded in had a 500 lb max tongue weight without WDH. Hard to believe this hitch is rated the same. Anything over 5000 lb for a TT i would use a WDH regardless just because of size. Anderson WDH only weighs 53 lbs and doesn't give...
For a smaller trailer look at the Anderson WDH. Takes a little getting used to but is easy once you have it figured out. Only about 60 lbs instead of 100 lbs like the friction bar style. Its adjustable based off load and you can dial it in really well. A little expensive but you don't have to...
Wanted to see who knows or has expertise and getting a spray in liner.
Just bought my F150 and it has no protection back there. I prefer spray in liners but don't know the difference between the two most common near me.
Thoughts?
To be fair I only bought the WDH because I had a tacoma to pull my camper and the WDH is mandatory as Tacomas suck at towing. Just bought the F150 and figured better safe than sorry. By no means am I an expert at what is required. Like someone said, $300 for piece of mind.
I use a WDH at 5k lbs loaded. Its not about just weight. The length, size, wind, and road surface all play into it. The two selling points on WDH is it evens the load on both axles and helps with sway. Just got back from a new TT shakedown today and felt the trailer still moving around due to...
