I confirmed it was the active air dam forcing air up into/across something that was vibrating or causing the humming/wind noise. Not the tires. If you put the truck into tow-haul or off-road mode, the sound will stop instantly, even if it's currently happening (that's because it retracts the air...
Considering how quickly (I'm sure not fast enough for those waiting) they are turning this around - I think it's safe speculation that it had nothing or little to do directly with the battery internals their selves? Would SK been able to make a battery spec change that fast and then deliver...
Taking a similar trip this summer except with a travel trailer in tow, starting by charging at Mt Vernon - down south to west of the pan handle. Good to see the route is fine with no trailer!
Update:
Second dealership also said they couldn't find anything wrong. Even if there was noise - they can't find anything mechanically or technology-wise, wrong. Nothing to do.
They did complete the wiper motor replacement recall while it was in which was nice. They also didn't charge me any...
I was told by Ford to get a second opinion at a different dealer and if the second dealer also says it is "working as intended" then I have to pay two diagnostic fees. Instead, if the second place thinks it is a real problem then I don't have to pay anything and it'll all be covered under...
Something I figured out today - you can keep the active air damn retracted by running in either tow-haul mode or offroad mode. I haven't verified with the cam yet that it actually retracted but I could be going down the rood, hearing the noise, then press either of those and it almost instantly...
I threw the truck up on some ramps and took a quick video to reference later. I didn't see anything interesting but sharing the video anyway, because why not. I did it fast because it was cold and windy lol pause the video for any points of interest.
The only thing remotely "loose" that could...
Mine reset and I had to put in the SSID and password again. Worked after that. I think there is also an option to switch between 2.4ghz and 5ghz broadcast.
My complaint is I can't figure out how to get the truck to connect to itself.. for streaming service purposes. That's messed up you can't...
I do have max tow but that piece looks far back, I doubt that is it. This sound comes in through what sounds like the passenger side front wheel well. Like you can almost feel the vibration over there with your foot. Same reason I took video of that area but didn't notice anything. I say almost...
Ok - here's the active grill shutters in action up to about 55mph. Looks as if they are operating ok to me.. there is lots of whistling but that's probably normal? You can barely see, bottom right in the grill shutter box, the active air damn deploying (and light coming through when it does)...
Good info, thanks. I'm trying to find enough metal bumper to mount the cam to while it can see in, to do just this. No Luck yet lol. I posted the sound it makes in the cabin up above if interested.
Here is another video I got of a side view of the wheel well and the active air damn working at above 45. You can sort of hear a baffling noise after it deploys but it's really hard to say if that is just a timing coincidence with the cam mic in direct wind like that.
In other words, not much...
Oh and for the record - the grill shutters are always open as far as I can tell. I did the remote start thing where you can watch them open and close. In my case they close and then open and stay open. No idea of that is normal.. but they seem to be closing and opening fine.
Here is the humming sound I am hearing in the cabin. To recap - It starts 10-15 seconds after I am above 45 and then is (mostly) consistent until I bring the truck's speed down under 45 again (and the active air damn retracts). Occasionally the sound will go away for a couple seconds but mostly...
Yea you can't hear it outside or because the noise from wet roads over-road it. Can be heard it in the cabin. At least I confirmed the air damn itself doesn't seem to have any direct issues. Just shared this incase anyone was interested in seeing it function (or spotted something I didn't)...
I can check this out too but the sound so far has lined up so perfectly with when the damn deploys (and how it deploys)... and the fact I removed the deployable part of the damn and the sound stopped all together.
Doesn't mean it's not these per say as it is either the damn itself or where it...
Do you think it's not deploying all the way because of crud/dirt? I'll try giving it a good spray/cleaning out. The video I am going to take in a bit as well may show what is going on. I'll report back.
I covered both "ports" / "vents" and the sound remained. Sadness. There was was another area between the wheel wheel cover and a metal brace/beam that I wanted to coverup but it's wet on the roads right now and I can't get the material I am using to cover it, to stick properly to a wet surface...
I think we took a shot of the same thing I just can't described anything worth a crap. You're right, It's probably redirecting air somewhere and causing a noise, the plastic components themselves of the deployable part seem solid so I doubt it is itself flapping (but the gopro can confirm that...
