At least you can talk to a person when you take your Ford in to service it.
Tesla service also now automatically schedules you at various service centers "in your area." My closest one is about 25 minutes away, but during my last service they punted me to another SC that was 45 minutes away...
True that. We're comparing pears and grapefruits here. I just sold my Lightning today, but not for distinguishing EV or tech differences between Tesla and Ford. It's because the Lightning is a much different vehicle than my Model S (and Ridgeline) and I've learned over the past 5 weeks and 2k...
Selling a lightly used OBDLink CX OBD2 BLE adapter. This is great for checking a lot of different aspects of your truck's status (such as your charging speed!) using an app like CarScanner or Torque. It is also compatible with ABetterRoutePlanner and will calibrate ABRP's estimate to your...
Selling a lightly used 80A TeslaTap J1772 adapter. This will let you use a Tesla UMC or HPWC to charge your truck up to its maximum 80A. I used this on a few trips to charge with my Tesla UMC and a couple different adapters. Works great. $200 shipped to the lower 48.
There should be a hard limit set on the device itself based on the circuit/wiring, and further reductions in that could be made from the app. You just couldn't set the hard limit @ 80A on say, a 60A circuit, and then set the app to 48A and say "I'm good, see, the app says 48A!"
I think it'll be interesting in 13 years when the requirement/restriction goes into place. Manufacturers don't typically rush into meeting requirements for sale unless they otherwise make them more money.
I did this calculation a while ago while trying to determine the same thing. I think you'd have to have a very small TOU rate window and a very big discount for that time period to make the bigger circuit worth it.
Here is the max you can put into the 131kwh ER truck in a 5 (10) hour window...
If you already have a 14-50 in your garage, I would buy two mobile connectors: one 40A that plugs into your 14-50 (such as the one @p52Ranch linked), and a Tesla UMC with a J1772 adapter.
You don't really want to be plugging and unplugging your connector from the 14-50 if you can help it. It's...
I keep mine at 90%. With as much range as the truck has, I know I'm not going to come close to running out during daily use, but I like keeping the voltage as high as is reasonable for a bit more power. The Lightning is better than my old Model S at delivering more consistent power across the...
I've had my truck for 5 weeks, just over 2k miles. Only 4 encounters:
1. Guy in a grocery store parking lot recognized it and asked me how I liked it and how much it was.
2. Lady in a grocery store parking lot saw me loading groceries into the frunk and was flipped out (in a good way).
3...
Tesla UMC and a TeslaTap is all I've used to charge my Lightning. I haven't even taken the Ford mobile connector out of the package. The Tesla UMC works great, and I've tried it on 4 different receptacle types with ratings of 16-40A, and the truck always pulls the appropriate amount of power...
It may seem obvious, but make sure you're in sport mode. Since the truck nags you every time you get in, it can go back to normal mode where there is a noticeable lag in power delivery.
Other than that, the truck seems obviously limited in front wheel traction since it will bark the front...
I think the optics of Ford offering such a program would be a detriment to the Lightning brand and its current capability. I could not see such a plan ultimately pulling anyone off the fence who is already considering a Lightning which I assume is the impetus behind the idea. Ford doesn't...
My guess is that you'd still need to charge the battery periodically. The range extender allows you to go further before that happens, but it's not a full replacement for the energy the battery can provide. You'd want to keep track of both the fuel gauge on the generator/extender and the...
I don't really have enough of my own data to compare since the truck does not log finer details like these (or at least doesn't display them) for review, and there are no 3rd party API calls allowed to see stats like these. I've only DCFC 4 times.
I typically see the truck start to charge and...
