Thanks. Has anyone just done the SB to unstick the APIM, then let nature take it's course on future OTA updates. I have seen reports that once unstuck the updates roll in nightly.
Getting ready to take my turn at TSB 22-2117 to unstick the APIM/TCU. Have the hardware including the Mongoose-Plus. About to load the software. All the online posts simply say download the FDRS software. When going to that page there all multiple steps listed with many software downloads. Just...
Neither, the whole thing worked to my advantage. I find the Tekonsha controller to be better than the Ford controller (when it works). I would have never tried it had the F-150 worked from the beginning. What I like best is real time feedback of the trailer brake activity. The Tekonsha display...
We all must take responsibility for our safety and the safety of others on the road. Ford has dropped the ball on this issue, but as I have demonstrated there is a work around for only $139 to have a reliable and safe trailer brake controller pending Ford's fix.
It makes no sense to drive...
Since I bypassed the 7 pin connector for trailer braking I can't rule out a 7 pin problem but all the lights on the 7 pin connector work fine. In time Ford will fix the issue, I guess, but for now just having something that works and is not complicated by software revisions/updates is worth $139.
Yes, 7 pin connector is hooked up, the only change is the brake wire coming from the 7 pin connector into the trailer is disconnected from the electric brakes in the trailer. Instead the power to the brakes is switched over in the trailer to the Takonsha controller electric brake output. So both...
I am not using the original 7-pin. I fabricated a custom 3 pin connector between the trailer and the F-150. The only connection to the F-150 from the Tekonsha controller is the brake light sense connection. So in essence I have two independent trailer brake controllers that can be toggled at the...
Also I set up the wiring in the trailer to simply swap the power to the electric brakes between the F-150 controller and the Tekonsha controller in case I want to use the F-150 controller in the future. So both controllers are installed and available for use by simply swapping one wire between...
Only 4 leads: +12v, Ground, Brake light sense and power to the brakes. I brought +12v, ground and power to the brakes back to driver's seat of the F-150 from the trailer. I tapped the brake light circuit at the rear brake light on the F-150 and brought that lead back with the 3 leads above...
I have given up on Ford. It seems they have a hardware problem but are probably holding back on replacing all the brake controllers because of the chip shortage.
I installed the Tekonsha 90195 P3 Electronic Brake Control in my PowerBoost. This is an excellent controller with many more features...
How is this possible? In the Airstream there is no connection to the electric brakes and the trailer electrical system unless the break away switch is tripped.
Class action attorneys are probably getting very excited.
Does anyone know of an F-150 PowerBoost without the intermittent brake controller problem? Is this fleet wide or just some F-150 PowerBoosts.
This thread started in April. Motortrend review of the PowerBoost detailed the problem in June. It is now October and no communication from Ford. Unacceptable.
A few hints about what is going on with these brake controllers. I plugged in a 7 pin analyzer to the trailer plug on my 2021 F-150 PowerBoost. About every 10 seconds the LED flashes on Pin 2 (Blue wire) that goes to the brakes. So it appears the brake controller is strobing the brake magnets...
I have been following this thread trying to make sense of all the scenarios where trailer brakes fail. I have yet to find a detailed source outlining how the F-150 trailer brake controller senses that brakes are connected and what the parameters are for the controller to drop control when it...
