Latest on Munro visit to Amprius battery in Fremont, Calif. Safe to say Sandy was impressed. The 7 year cycle for battery improvement may have just been shortened.

Does my heart good to see the potential for new battery technology and by association improvements in vehicle EV charging technology. Thanks

I didn't expect to see this develop so fast. Looks like they are very well funded. All the parameters seem a big step up to our current Lightning battery.

Nice facility and an amazing cell...I just wish they showed more about the cathode (which I previously said they buried the real headline about the cell).

HOWEVER, what you see in the video is less than a 3 Ah cell. When they were initially charging the cell, it was under 30 A current and they said it was at a 10C rate (10 times the capacity of the cell). They still need to scale up into the 70-100 Ah range for a pouch cell to be used in EVs or VTOL (mentioned in the video) to be viable in a weight/volume arena. I'm getting ready to test a 340 Ah cell, but it is a prismatic cell instead of a pouch.

Mickey, the heat rate of rise, and peak level, they wanted to say was normal, was it normal? That charging rate would certainly be impressive.

It is a little high but nothing to worry about. I saw 45C in the video, while I set my safety limits while cycling to 55C.

I hope:

a) the tech does pan out.... as most know Tesla thought they would take a big step forward with their 4680 batteries. While they work well in the lab in small batches, producing them at scale without a lot of rejects ain't easy. Amprius' tech will face the same challenges.

b) Let's hope Amprius' lab only proven advancements don't take 7 years to make it to the marketplace. It would be exciting as hell if those charging speeds, and energy density, could hit the market in say 3 years. I mean, charging all EVs from 10% to 80% in about 10 minutes would be a game changer.

A significant plus of the Lightning's design; the battery can be easily repaired, modified, and even replaced.

The approach of a "structural" battery, thus a disposable car, may be seen as planned obsolescence in the not to distant future.
