Any experience using command hooks on your paint?

I want to get festive with some lights on my truck. This guy () is using command hooks and saying that the adhesive won't screw up the paint, but I'm curious if anyone can confirm. At the very least I'll stick them to the plastic around the bed and running boards. but I think it'll look better if I can run them around the rest of the truck as well.

I used the command Velcro strips for decking out my truck in a recent parade and there was no paint damage.

Does that mean you think the command adhesive will mess up the paint? Or are you just anti putting holiday lighting on your truck?

I would not stick anything to the paint of the truck that wasn’t going to stay there forever. Not sure if it would damage it, but I don’t want to take the chance.

The only thing that should go on the paint is ceramic coating or paint protection film (PPF).

Are you versed in command strips and how to remove them?
I ask this because a friend of mine, his wife put the tiny ones all over their ceiling to hang halloween stuff. They began removing them and were tearing the paint off at each location. They weren't doing it correctly. I came over, and removed the rest for them without one more bit of damage. There's a right way and a wrong way to remove them.

100%, if you pull the hook straight off the surface, you're going to have a bad day. Gotta stretch the backing, destroying it in the process. I thought this was pretty self evident. But I've totally seen others do as you describe and I really worry about how they make it through life.

The command strips probably won't ruin/damage your paint but the wind blowing around the lights and wire sure will and if the wind won't be as much of an issue then I'm sure road grime will get under the wires and lights and start rubbing on the paint.

I did this last year, but stuck to the plastic around the top of the bed. I didn’t trust anything on the paint, lol. It was still very festive (I think). The larger “bulb” lights stood out much better than the small ones.

(I hadn’t thought about this pic since last year. Dog I love this truck. Best vehicle I have ever owned by far!)

All very true. The lights rubbing on the paint at 60 mph...

Dont you have to worry about Legality of lighting too? I didnt think you could put exterior lights all over?

I'm sure that's very location dependent. But as long as it isn't in a position to distract the driver, or drivers around you, I'm sure it'll be fine.

I used them on the painted area on the underside of the frunk, on the grill, and on the plastic areas in the frunk tub to secure a Halloween display. No issues removing them, but they were only on for a few hours.
