Just because you spent $120k on a dumpster doesn't mean you have a clue.

Anyone who deliberately takes any vehicle, electric or not, anywhere near salt water needs their head examined. In my opinion as someone who grew up on the water.

Launching a boat, OK you can't avoid it, but every time I see people playing with their 4x4s on tidal mud flats or beaches I have to shake my head.

So that Reddit link may have exposed a issue with the new forum app when I click that link it took me to Reddit inside our F150 app and I couldnā€™t get back without closing it out and reopening.
I find it hilarious how the moderators on there are so tired of people complaining they are threatening bans if known issues are brought up

So... off-road non-expert question for those more clued in:

Conventional wisdom seems to say that when driving on soft sand, one must lower tire pressure a lot. Makes sense to increase contact area and prevent tires from digging like caffeinated gophers.

How much should one depressurize close-to-stock Lightning tires for soft terrain, though? Surely some of you have been out thundering across the desert, dunes, etc., right? Or is it that you get proper off-road wheels or forget it?

Decrease the pressure by about 2/3. So, if your tires normally inflated at 45psi, you can lower to about 15psi.
That if you have 18" wheels.
But if you have "skinnier" tires with smaller sidewall (20" and 22" wheels) I wouldn't go below 25psi.

Iā€™m shopping for another Lightning and do plan on using it on Nauset Beach. Iā€™m a little concerned about the weight of the truck on stock tires, but there are other 3/4 ton trucks and some RVā€™s that drive down the beach on similar width tires. They mandate airing down to 11 psi or 15 psi depending on which publication or sign you see. My 2021 Tacoma with 265/70R16 was a champ in the soft sand aired down to 11 psi, my current 2001 Expedition with 265/75R16 also does fine. I expect that the Lightning will be ok, but I carry recovery gear if it isnā€™t.

I'd try at 18 psi. It can depend on the type of beach sand / rocks / gravel and its compactness.

Check out Australian Staun deflators.
