DIY color samples

I think my obsession with choosing the right color combo has gone too far. I ordered touch up paint and leather samples - really wish I had an airbrush but I wasn’t going to invest in one just for this. Not a smooth paint job but it’s enough to give me a feel of the colors.

I feel like I need to verify the truffle brown, it’s quite dark compared to other photos I’ve seen. I’ll still need to make a trip to the dealership to confirm but the paint samples seem good and will let me think for a bit before I go in.

That seems to be how Bordeaux photographs. There are very few photo examples on the site that show it as dark as it really is.

Which one is the color below the Frozen Blue metallic?It looks like washed out blue to me...Or is it the Silver metallic and just reflects the blue sample beside it?

That’s actually ice grey, doesn’t look particularly blue alone.

I ended up buying just a cheapo portable airbrush that people use for face painting and small projects. It really smooths things out and promotes the metallic. It doesn’t change the color per se but I’ll probably redo the contenders.

This is gentian blue airbrushed and clear coated. The reason it looks a bit vignette is because I’m shining a flashlight on it to bring out the metallics.

I would highly recommend buying touch up samples if you’re on the fence and need time to look at a few colors.

I broke down and went to the dealership today. I’ve been avoiding doing it because I could probably sit for hours gawking at the different colors and trim without making up my mind, but I’m glad I did.

They had Macan EVs in ruby, ice grey, frozen blue, volcano, slate grey, and gentian.

A lot of these colors just don’t photograph accurately. I liked the ruby and frozen blue far more in person, more in line with my samples than what you see online. The ruby for example makes the car look more aggressive than I expected. The frozen blue is less “bubbly” than in photos and is actually quite nice.

I was leaning toward gentian but in person it looks like it will be a swirl magnet and I just don’t have the discipline to keep it looking great - same reason black is out.

Neodyme is also much nicer and less “loud” than most photos I see, as is the optional glacier blue accent.

Overall, despite me thinking I would just be indecisive, the trip really solidified things for me.
