Online forums are a great place for owners to share tips and ways to care for your F-150 Lightning, and it’s awesome to see the community continuing to support each other.

In the spirit of sharing helpful information, we wanted to let our customers know that if you notice a Ford Power-Up (over-the-air software update) is installing longer than expected, do not disconnect your 12v battery in an attempt to speed up the process. Your vehicle needs power during a software update, just like your computer does during an update, and by removing the battery you remove the power source. It’s like unplugging your computer in the middle of an important update. If you disconnect the 12v battery during a Ford Power-Up it could make the vehicle no longer drivable, requiring it to be towed to your dealership for repairs.

We want to ensure a high-quality and seamless software update process, which can sometimes take longer than we all would like. Updates are sometimes things you can see on the screen, other times they’re updating important software in the background. For confirmation that the Ford Power-Up is complete or to view the details of the latest software update, you can view via SYNC in the vehicle – go to Settings > Software Updates or in the FordPass app.

Remember: Once the Ford Power-Up has started, keeping the power source is important for a successful update! If you have any questions, please contact the Ford Customer Service Center at (800) 392-3673.
