I dont think this is true, and if it is its a bad design.
Worked for me on the ~1600 mile road trip I had. Pressed the button after someone mentioned it either on this forum or the FB group; car scanner shows amperage draw skyrocketing to get the battery cooled down and within 10 minutes it brought my battery down from 120* or so to 90* which appears to be the higher end of the "middle" line of the gauge.

Yes it provides extra cooling in tow/haul, but this time of year wouldn't it need extra heating to precondition for DCFC?

It was something that only popped up as of a couple months ago, I'm sure some of the winter road trippers will report back for us. I tried it when the battery was ~75* but it appears that is the normal range so it didn't need to do anything.

In theory it should do the same thing to ensure the battery is prepped for the workload.

Yes. Tow/haul did nothing for battery heating for me today. Outside temp is around -13 or -14 C and battery temp was -11 C. It stayed there in normal, sport or tow/haul. I thought it might heat it up a bit in Sport since the available power was reduced to 82% with the cold battery. But no.

That said. I have done a DCFC with a cold battery and the heater gets the battery up to a reasonable temperature (+19 C if I recall correctly) within 15 minutes or so then shuts off. Unfortunately I didn't take notes on the actual charging speeds during the process but I definitely remember my impression that it wouldn't have made a whole lot of difference to the total charging time. My guess is that hot is worse than cold for that.

You know what would be great for holiday travel, @Ford Motor Company ?
  • getting everyone their NACS adapters
  • Pushing out bluecruise 1.4 updates
  • Pushing updates so people can use android auto and CarPlay ev features
Or building better native experiences.. I seriously just want native spotify app.. then ill stop complaining about the software.

No. 1.4 is the latest. 1.5 is coming. It’s going to have auto lane changing among other improvements. I have 1.4 which has lane change assist. I have to tap the turn signal to tell truck I want to change lanes. I’m only on 1.4 in my 23 because I have a yearly sub to fdrs so I’ve updated all my modules and that allowed me to do some forscan work with some info I got to enable these features. Would be nice if ford would just start rolling it out to all. I can tell you that 1.4 is worlds better than 1.0.

My reading of the webpage is that Apple Maps via CarPlay does not currently support battery preconditioning, but that Google Maps EV Routing via Android auto will trigger automatic preconditioning.

Is this everyone's experience, and what about using Google Maps via CarPlay?

Not sure if anyone used it but I loved the road trip planner feature in the app. I setup my road trip with all the desired stops and pushed it to the truck. Super easy, wish we still had that.

Yes, I am gearing up for an electric roadtrip. And no I’m not using any of the items you’ve listed on your website, you know why? Because you haven’t pushed the updates necessary to make that EV routing happen to your 22 model year customers. How about you make that happen instead of putting out a flashy website and forgetting those owners who have been with you on this electric road-trip since the beginning?

End rant and back to planning my electric roadtrip the old fashioned way - PlugShare, ABRP, Tesla, and Google.

It would be nice if the Ford Nav would recognized compatible Tesla chargers, but currently on my 2023 Lariat it doesn't.
