Friend had a damaged tire and dropped the truck off at the the dealer to get it replaced.

The dealer replaced the tire with a different model of the Hankook Dynapro AT2 (aftermarket version) than the OEM tire it replaced. Now there are 3 OEM style and 1 aftermarket

The OEM tire (we now have 3 with 5K miles)

The rears now are mismatched.

Will this hurt the drivetrain at all?

No to the drivetrain because its the same size. But most tire manufactures will tell you that mismatched treads COULD affect handling characteristics. Its probably not a big deal and you may never notice it, but I would just keep the former statement in mind.

This would drive my OCD nuts. Even just having the same tire with 5k mile tread wear difference would grate on my nerves, but at least the tread pattern would match.

You are much stronger than I. ?

Looks like the tread is deeper on the aftermarket tire. Uneven wear will affect handling to an extent, but your OEM tires only have 5k miles so the tread likely wont be that out of whack. To put your mind at ease I would maybe email/chat with ford customer service, they could get you a ticket number and therefore would have something on record if things go wrong.

What about having them swap your spare onto your other 5k mile rear tire? That way you would have another newer with slightly more tread tire in the back. Still wouldn't be the same but closer.

That would be ideal, but unfortunately the spare doesn't match on the hybrids this year. Its a narrow tread width 17" rim tire I think.

I'm not surprised. My spare doesn't match my tires either. Don't think for a moment THAT thought doesn't bother my OCD either. Shudder.

I’m a bit quirky about this.
Will only buy tires in pairs if I have a tire failure.
I’ll keep the good one to use for something else or emergency.
On her car, a single tire failure will result in a new set of 4.
For some reason she is always operating in all wheel drive (trailblazer).

had a tire separation on one of the TBirds years ago and bought a pair for the front, and informed the store people I would be back in a couple of weeks for another pair for the rear.
Bozos put tires on that were being discontinued and could not match them up two weeks later.
they ended up removing the 2-week old tires and giving me a full set of matching + a big discount for the aggravation.
