That is where the camera is housed. All Lightning's are currently shipping with this unit and it is for the active safety features. Even if your truck isn't equipped with BlueCruise, it still uses this camera for features such as AEB, LKA, etc.

Was talking to a friend who has a new Tesla and he was telling me how good the full self drive is on the trial. They pushed it out to everyone with a 2017 or newer for a month free trial. It took him out of the parking lot, on the side streets to the freeway, onto the freeway and through his neighborhood streets. Maybe someday they will license it to other manufacturers. . .

Don't want to derail, but FSD is is very impressive compared to past versions. Based on my experience with BC I'm Tesla all day long. And now we also see how Ford is delivering right on Tesla's timelines - never on time from their estimates.

I tried FSD 12.3 a few days ago and it's insane. It isn't perfect, but I never had to disengage and I could tell it's a major improvement over v11. It is so nice to set the navigation system and the car just drives to the destination. I wish BlueCruise would at least take in Navigation inputs on the highway for exits.
