Wait. So unless your car is yelling that there is another car incoming, you assume you’re safe? And without these systems, you could be in an accident? This meant I was driving for a couple hours, changing lanes, all the while thinking it was clear when I was changing lanes. I could have gotten into an accident.
PPE is 5 years old and started with the Taycan (and Audi E-tron).With the Macan EVs still so early in their production cycle, it’s probably best to continue to rely on tried and true safety measures, in this case, setting your mirrors properly, looking over your shoulder, etc., just to ensure to the best of your ability that there is nothing in your blindspot.
I agree with you 100% that any Porsche product should not have these issues and glitches; however we all are admittedly early adopters of a brand new Porsche platform, the PPE. Hopefully things get sorted out sooner rather than later.
A brief online search notes that the Taycan and related Audi are on the J1 platform.PPE is 5 years old and started with the Taycan (and Audi E-tron).
Macan EV leveraged the Taycan software and features...not in a good way however!
No excuses therefore - Porsche has made a mess of both EVs software architecture due to fundamental design issues across multi-vendor components.
Apologies for the misinformation and had thought PPE started the journey but either way no excuse given the platform relates to physical attributes of the platform and not the software of the layered components.A brief online search notes that the Taycan and related Audi are on the J1 platform.
what are you talking about? there is zero carryover. ppe is new and the software is completely new.Apologies for the misinformation and had thought PPE started the journey but either way no excuse given the platform relates to physical attributes of the platform and not the software of the layered components.
Apparently 60% of PPE is a carryover from MEB.
I can't say whether or not the Macan's blind spot monitoring is particularly good or bad. I've never driven a car that didn't have false positives, false negatives, and occasionally just didn't seem to be responding at all. In my personal experience, the Macan behaves about the same as our XC60, Q5, Rivian, Polestar, and X3M over the past decade. None of them are foolproof.I've been patient over the last 3 months while experiencing many software glitches but this most recent issue was downright dangerous. This past weekend I received "safety systems" error message. The error said I could continue driving, however, I did not know that meant my blindspot detectors were not working. I was on a road trip and just happened to notice a car in my blindspot but not registering an alert. This meant I was driving for a couple hours, changing lanes, all the while thinking it was clear when I was changing lanes. I could have gotten into an accident.
Try Wikipedia...besides its just letters and numbers not to mention some smoke and mirrors.what are you talking about? there is zero carryover. ppe is new and the software is completely new.
sometimes i have the impression that there are more people without than with a macan ev in this forum. that is ok but why do the ones without an macan ev post all the time -mostly negative- and why do they have so strong opinions about it?
could you provide a link to the wikipedia entry you talk about?Try Wikipedia...besides its just letters and numbers not to mention some smoke and mirrors.
I have 4 years under the belt of Porsche EVs (owned two) so kinda been around the block with Porsche on the EV front - how about you?
Had 2 long term loaners - a Macan 4S and Turbo.
Much to learn from Taycan ownership which now plays out on the Macan EV unfortunately.
NeedI I say more?
I agree, 3 months into my 4S and not a rattle or software problem. No doubt there are legit problems but i do not think the problems are as wide spread as it can sometimes appear.I have not had any software or hardware problems in the three months that I have been driving my Macan 4S!on 🪵
The only issue was a passenger door faint rattle that improved after placing some insulation foam.
