I had new 275/70r18 Firestone Destination X/Ts installed on Monday. Tuesday morning 1 rear tire was flat due to defective tire. I am now riding on a spare and thanks to me buying a hard to find / low inventory tire I will need to drive this way until a new tire is shipped in from out of state.
If I have the smaller spare on my rear axle could this cause damage to my transmission? 50+ mile commute per day, in slow lane to be safe. The size difference isn't huge (1.5" measured) but still concerning. Might relocate spare to front axle in the morning.
Side note: this does make me sorta glad I didn't go to a 34"+ tire like I truly wanted for appearance purposes. Not sure at what point the spare tire diameter should be increased to avoid this lack of inventory situation.
