New tonneau bed cover installed, range has increased

Getting my Lariat ER ceramic coated next week. I hope that will offset (or improve?) the range impact of my tonneau cover. Certainly the reduced payload from my lighter wallet will improve range.

Just some anecdotal observations from driving in the real world. I have a tonneau cover for storage protection. I don’t think there’s anything I could do to my Lightning that would significantly increase its range. I’m enjoying it for what it is! It’ll be even better when everyone here gets theirs. It is worth the wait and the disappointments or let downs of ordering, production and delivery.

which is what mythbusters and consumer reports did and both found a very slight decrease in mileage under controlled conditions with a cover added. The only way they saw added mileage was with a replacement mesh tailgate (better than with the tailgate totally removed). Nothing logical could explain this result, but it is scientific fact.

Myth busters is far from scientific fact.

The one I saw had a 3% range increase though.

The real benefit to range is not so much in the aerodynamic improvement from the hydrophobic coating, but the reduced wind turbulence achieved by eliminating insect splatter on the painted surfaces.

That is probably not correct. The best surface for gas milelage is like a golf ball with a lot of pitfalls.

Are there 2 lightning owners on this forum that live near each other and want to do a test? Drive same route at same time. One truck with tonneau, one without. Swap tonneau to other truck and repeat.

All scientific tests show that bed covers do not increase mileage, they reduce it. Not "logical" but both mythbusters and consumer reports have proven this. I also use Retrax covers, for other reasons, but do not count on increased mileage/range.
