I've been going nuts trying to understand why the drivers side front rubs and the passenger side doesn't rub at all. Eventually in my confused state I measured the distance from the tread to the front fender well (on both sides) and to my amazement they are different on the drivers side. As-in the wheel is not centered in the fender well and is slightly rearward on the drivers side, hence the rubbing.

Now maybe there are other explanations for this (fender shape different on each side, etc) but I measured the drivers side wheel is between 3/8" and 1/2" more rearward than the passenger side. Why on earth would that be? I also measured forward to the bumper... same finding, and rearward all the way to the cab, door jams, etc... same findings. Did someone at the factory make a mistake or are your trucks the same?

Don't laugh out loud at me before you measure your own truck (hahaha). Trying to confirm if this is normal and by design. Super strange indeed. If you measure these two areas on both front wheels, asking if they are different on drivers vs passenger side.

I cannot fathom why this would be non-symmetrical... but open to commentary.

What are your wheel and tire specs? Have you done any suspension work?

Fuel Rebel 20x9 +1 offset. On 295/60r20.
2” readylift level (puck’s on top of strut coil assembly).

But still the same on each side. I can’t imagine it created this issue. It’s level from side-to-side as well. Expected it to be the same.

But it never rubbed before install correct? It could be an installation issue, maybe something is giving some play, dont know. But these Raptor owners had the same issue:

Setback is a common alignment specification on any vehicle that addresses road crown as well as toe-out on turns. Caster angles are used to allow the vehicle to track straight down the road. Adjusting a split caster angle addresses this and creates positive setback on North American (left hand drive) vehicles. OEMs choose wheels with an offset and tires are carefully a part of this as well.

Rubbing does not normally occur unless incorrect offset wheels and oversized tires come into the equation. Professional tire shops do not install wheels and tires that create the condition. Period.

I’ve seen some YouTubers cutting out the front crash bars to “solve” this problem that was created by the WRONG wheel and tires chosen by incompetent tire/wheel “specialists”.

You are not crazy. This is normal. And please for your passengers safety and any future owner of your truck do not remove crash bars. They are there to prevent intrusion into the cab area from a small offset crash.

Not uncommon to see each side be slightly different. My 19 was like this slight rub on one side at full crank in reverse nothing on other side. I agree don’t cut crash bars but I found if you loosen the bolts they will move abit and then retighten.

You probably should have used a +20 offset. I think that is what most on using with that tire size combo..That tire is 1” taller and nearly 1” wider. You moved the wheel out 43mm or 1.7” which completely changes geometry and space requirements. If you only have a slight rub might be able salvage.

HAHAHA, actually after the last few posts, I feel pretty comfortable that I am not crazy (on this matter anyways). I did cut the forward facing crash bars to eliminate the rubbing at full steer lock, etc and it was well worth the small effort. Filed edges, a little touch up paint to stop rusting, and easy peasy. The rearward crash bars (towards the cab are 100% intact and were left alone).

I just installed the exact same setup. 20x9 +1 Fuel Flex and 295/60/20 tires. I am having the same concern when in reverse on the driver side. The tire rubs against the front crash bar. Would you mind sharing what you did to fix the problem? Thanks much appreciated.
