  1. Why would I need a mobile charger?

I always check the temperature of the cable close to the outlet after charging for 5-10 minutes. In my case I'm using dryer outlets rated at 240V, 30 amps and drawing 24 amps with the SplitVolt mobile charger. When charging at unknown places there is always that question about the outlets...
  2. Why would I need a mobile charger?

I use the SplitVolt 240V, 24A charger with a NEMA 14-30 plug and NEMA 10-30 adapter. Very helpful when traveling as it is much more likely to find a dryer outlet than the NEMA 14-50 needed for the Ford Mobile charger. This one is four times faster than the 120V, 12A charger so is quite...
  3. My MME is perfect. I wish to discuss my fears with other members here about the Lightning. (No more fears.)

Several forum members have detailed using the Pro Power to run their houses through a transfer panel and generator input connection. That is much cheaper and easier without involving SunRun at all. Less power, but 240V, 30A will run most important things- for me the refrigerator, heat...
  4. My MME is perfect. I wish to discuss my fears with other members here about the Lightning. (No more fears.)

Why not use the generator OR the Lightning? Several have posted here that their Lightning works well when connected to the generator inlet of a transfer panel. Pro Power is 240V, 30A and for my house that is enough to run everything I need.
  5. My MME is perfect. I wish to discuss my fears with other members here about the Lightning. (No more fears.)

No problems so far with my Lightning XLT SR after 5,000 miles and a year. Only took one trip so very infrequent fast charging- 99% of the time it is charged in my garage. I drive on the beach every week or so and the Lightning handles really well on the loose sand- air down to 20 psi and just...
  6. WATT were we EVer thinking?

LOL- "elections" auto-corrupt hits again. It really should be that simple, get the electrons moving, and I think things will get better with time- there may even be some competition. I saw a Tesla driver at the EvGo station in Norfolk- they were charging 27 cents per kWh while Tesla was...
  7. WATT were we EVer thinking?

I agree, just four apps on my phone, but there has to be a better way. I read on this forum where the "Circle K" truck stop has fast chargers that just work- slide in your credit card and charge. I'm not sure why that is not at least an option on these other stations- NFC card readers are...
  8. FCSP - can it power your house on a breaker less than 80amps?

Exactly- 30A breakers are common- and I charge my Lightning with the Grizzl-E limited to 24 amps on a 30 amp breaker. Full charge overnight so works just fine for me.
  9. WATT were we EVer thinking?

That seems like a really reasonable request!!! Just got back from a road trip to NC, 600 miles each way- EA was at least open- but many were throttled to 50kW.
  10. WATT were we EVer thinking?

Plugshare is usually more reliable than EA for the real story on charger reliability. And really there are far too few charging stations- I was ten minutes out from an EA station a few weeks ago- three of four stations were open- but when I got there they were all taken! Fortunately one...
  11. NH EV fee

OK, but since I charge my Lightning from my solar panels - who is going to measure the consumption? My system is grid-tied but the electrons go directly to my truck when I charge during the day. My system is producing 7.7kW right now and I charge at 5.5kW. I think the surcharge on DC fast...
  12. Cybertruck frunk open view reveals its design, and it looks familiar!

Frunk was a great use of the space since they kept the overall truck like an ICE F150. The second generation should have a much smaller frunk and a longer bed- I guess we'll see in a year or two. I plan to buy the next generation Ford electric truck when it is available.
  13. The Tiny Cybertruck Frunk

I agree- hardly ever use the frunk- I would definitely trade it for a foot longer bed. But I think Ford did a good job getting this truck designed and DELIVERED to customers much faster than Tesla. And with Ford building trucks for 100+ years they have figured out what people want. I held...
  14. F-150 Lightning (Tremor-Spec'd) Off-Road Mule Caught Testing

I'd like to see if the front skid plate could be retrofitted on my truck. I have a piece of some black fiber material that got ripped when I was driving on the beach- it may have hit a stray piece of firewood. So far the beach driving has worked well but I sometimes have a lot of sand under...
  15. 7 Major Carmakers Launch New EV Charging Network In North America!

Yes, some of them do not have a card reader, others have the NFC type proximity reader. Since most credit cards include the chip that seems like a good option going forward- weatherproof and a smooth surface. You just need to hold your card over the target area. The card includes a small...
  16. 7 Major Carmakers Launch New EV Charging Network In North America!

That already exists- a charge card! Ridiculous to have dozens of apps on your phone- and what if the phone is not working? Much easier to have a credit card- my Ford Pass bills to the credit card anyway.
  17. SAE is standardizing the NACS connector – making it less dependent on Tesla

I agree with you- I used the EVGo in Norfolk that is 85 feet from Panera. I could see my truck from the restaurant. There was a Tesla Model Y charging there because he had the adapter and the price per kWh was lower than the Supercharger network. My SR took about 40 minutes to charge from 50...
  18. Will Ford's NACS announcement cause people not to buy EVs with CCS until 2025 ??

Yes, but many states are trying to incentivize people to buy EVs-this sort of extra fee is not helpful. I'd like to see the Norway approach- charge an extra $10K per year for ICE vehicles - to help offset their pollution. Then an $7500 incentive to buy an EV and Norway is phasing out dino...
  19. Will Ford's NACS announcement cause people not to buy EVs with CCS until 2025 ??

Maryland used to give a sales tax rebate on EVs- but with the hapless Hogan the program quickly ran out of money. But at least there is not a big annual fee for an EV like in many states.
  20. Will Ford's NACS announcement cause people not to buy EVs with CCS until 2025 ??

Why is Arizona penalizing EVs? I suppose they want to burn more dino fuel to get some more temperature records? This is what happens in states run by the fossil fuel lobby- that includes EVERY republican!
