Try to unlearn all that, or you will be very upset during your ownership.
Your understanding is flawed. @rugedraw has explained it correctly.
Yes. Perfect answer.
And what really screws up your head is when you take the vehicle in for work, and as part of that work they do an update of...
...Assuming the last OTA a vehicle got was 3.5.4 which was a TCU update. The next power-up update that is due for that vehicle is GWM update 4.2.1. If you plug that vehicle into FDRS and perform the GWM that is has showing, you essentially did OTA 4.2.1 with FDRS, so that vehicle will never get...
I think for certain updates, it will be incremental. Otherwise you will get a jump from one version to another. However since you are on 4.x, be prepared to have it take a while.
I got another update today to power up software causing me more confusion. I was able to find the screen shot from Nov 18th. Correction to my original post. Nov 18th updated me to 4.2.1 Today's update took me to 4.4.1.2 Who Hoo!
Moved your independent thread to thread for what you last received, much more activity in the parent node, to read on later updates.
Why you haven't gotten anything since is a classic mystery with Ford.
Plenty of tricks to read about potentially forcing some action.
Not sure if I’m missing something, but my last update was when I bought the truck in august (4.2.1 or something) and I’m seeing a bunch of this 6 update. Am I doing something wrong where it’s saying it’s up to date but isn’t? Thanks!
Same - I haven’t got anything since June. The OTA software update system seems really jacked up for a random number of Lightnings. I really hope Ford improves the reliability of their modems and connected services.
Yeah. I have not had an update since power of 4.2.1 on June 17 on my PRO
BUT MY WIFE’S XLT HAS HAD ALL BUT THE LATEST RADIO PRESET ONE. 🤷🏻🤷🏻
I am thinking about having my mobile service guy trying to force them through FDRS. Maybe if I can get one, the rest will come along…. Fat chance
but at...
Nice! I got updated to 4.2.1 a few days ago - I haven't taken it to a dealer, just tried to be patient and forget about it. Personally I can't wait till I get the UI update for the improved AC controls.
4.2.2.2 is the new interface for trucks with quirky modems and gateways.
4.2.1 isthe gateway update. You will hopefully receive 4.2.1.2 which is the modem update.
4.2.3 I believe is the new interface for trucks having less comma issues.
Problem was they built these trucks during a chip...
I did manage to luck into getting my connectivity menu to open. I activated most options. This morning I got an alert that 4.2.1 successfully loaded last night.
Thanks for the background, this is helpful. Seems like the notices were just late to go out then as it seems 4.2.2 rolled out to most by now, with 4.2.3 hitting a few this week. Just wanted to make sure the dealer didn't have a solution we didn't. Doesn't seem the case.
...failed and caused my modem problems. 4.1.2.1 was the dealer fix. This was done 2/20/23 despite a Notice to dealers from Ford NOT to do it.
4.2.1 was the gateway update and 4.2.1.2 was the modem update.
4.2.2.2 was the updated interface. Received 4/19/23.
All received OTA after the dealer...
I've gotten 3 updates since purchase in Feb. Currently on 4.2.1 and seem to be stuck (trying to download?) getting 4.2.2. I forget the build date but I think it was early summer '22. Here's what I have had on my SW update screen for a couple weeks now:
As an update to this thread I received 4.2.2.2 on 4/19 which updated my interface. I seem to be updated now.
For normal trucks 4.2.3 is out which I believe is a modem update related to FordPass.
