  1. Thought on our frigid 1,300 mile trip

On this note I use 5% SOC as my 0. I wonā€™t plan to be lower than 5% at any point. I was towing a 7300 lb trailer and showing an arrival at the DCFC with 5% when the power dropped and soon the truck stopped. I was on the exit ramp and could see the DCFC, but the truck wouldnā€™t move. I...
  2. Thought on our frigid 1,300 mile trip

If you arenā€™t going to be plugged in over night, it is best to get your charge the night before while the battery is still warm from driving. If you cold soak it over night and try to get a charge in the morning you will waste time waiting for the battery to warm up. If you have a it if a drive...
  3. Using 240v For Brewing Beer

This truck is constantly changing what I think of as ā€˜truck tasks.ā€™ So hauling firewood is a traditional truck task, but now my truck also helps in the processing. In fact, if I could convince Ford to get back into the tractor business and make an electric tractor, I could quit burning dead...
  4. Overheated bed camera

Does anyone know if the replacement camera is actually different? Was there a bad lot of cameras or are all of our cameras subject to heat exhaustion? I park under cover in PA, so have not experienced this issue. Iā€™m also well out of the factory warranty, so is my camera going to fail during a...
  5. Its fall in the NE and the squirrels are out!

I bought a small PDR kit on Amazon that I used to pull dings from some aluminum on my Airstream. However, the aluminum on my Lightning seems thinner and I had a pro pull the door ding I got on a windy day at a Walmart EA where the bollards are strategically placed to do maximum damage. It...
  6. A2Z and Tesla SC, Road tripping on easy

Yepā€”now I have more time than money! The trip to ID took us 1.5 days longer than if we had towed with an ICE vehicle. It was only slightly cheaper, but the truck is so much more comfortable than the Ram 2500 diesel that it replaced, that I donā€™t mind the extra time on the road. A lot of the...
  7. A2Z and Tesla SC, Road tripping on easy

Iā€™m currently towing a 7300 lb travel trailer from PA to ID and back. Iā€™ve been using the Ford provided adapter and it is awesome. Although sometimes I wish I had a third hand to unhook it. The release button is awkwardly placed under the NACS so that it is difficult to depress while securely...
  8. The lightning is awesome, except the embarrassingly bad infotainment system.

I know this thread is about infotainment, but since you opened the door on other vehicle features, I have to mention a couple of my pet peeves with my Tesla. It is a MY, so classified as an SUV, but despite having a great sized cargo area, it has no cargo tie down points. Also no spare tire...
  9. The lightning is awesome, except the embarrassingly bad infotainment system.

I guess Iā€™m one of the lucky ones. My infotainment system works. Occasionally I do have Apple CarPlay connect without audio, but it resolves with a power cycle. I own a Tesla MY and to be honest I much prefer the Lightning. With CarPlay I can dictate a book if I want and send it as a text. The...
  10. downhill without downshifting?

I would suggest the OP try Tow/Haul mode. When I come down an 8% grade towing 7000 lbs, I can take my foot off the accelerator at 45 and the truck will hold 45 for several miles until the grade flattens a bit and I have to engage the accelerator to keep from slowing too much. It is actually...
  11. DATA THREAD: Post your tow and efficiency!

Weā€™ve done a lot of towing with our Airstream Classic (25ā€™ long, 8.5ā€™ wide, 9.5ā€™ tall, 7300 lbs loaded). We average 1.1 mi/kWh at 65 mph. We donā€™t typically tow any faster. Weā€™ve increased efficiency to average 1.3 mi/kWh at 50 mph (long stretch between available chargers).
  12. Trailer light control module fault and trailer brake control module fault

Just wanted to let folks know how this issue resolved. I never found the incandescent lights, but it turns out that wires to one of my trailer taillights were actually reversed at a splice further along in the wiring. After this was corrected, the LED lights worked fine. The Lightning is quite...
  13. Folding Mirrors Don’t Fold When Locking Truck

Another interesting feature that Iā€™ve come to appreciate is that the auto fold on the mirrors doesnā€™t happen if you lock the doors with an exposed FOB or phone inside the vehicle. The doors will lock but the mirrors donā€™t fold. This has saved me multiple times from walking away without my phone.
  14. Ford adaptive cruise 312a vs standard tesla autopilot

Ditto on tlsā€™s assessment. I actually donā€™t use autopilot in my Model Y unless there are no other vehicles around. It just isnā€™t worth the risk. I use Blue Cruise all the timeā€”it doesnā€™t scare me.
  15. Outstanding Tire Wear - Firestone Destination A/T2 Tires

I just replaced my OEM Grabbers at 41k miles. They had a bit of life left in the tread, but I sprung a leak around a plug that was put in to repair a road debris puncture. I ended up going with the Grabbers again. The tire place had them in stock and they were pretty good tires and I couldnā€™t...
  16. 400watt limit on Frunk

I wish Ford would have ducted some climate control to the frunk and then given us the option to set it as a separate zone. This could be great for keeping my groceries cool in the summer or preventing my ski boots from becoming ice blocks in the winter. It would also allow the outlets to...
  17. Camping with the Lightning and Kodiak Canvas truck tent

Iā€™ll second the Camp and Dog mode request! I even authorized Ford to use the term ā€œPet Parkā€ (to avoid any nasty copyright issues with Tesla). Iā€™m currently using Appalachian Pet Park mode with the Sketch app (as a member of this forum suggested). Ford is welcome to save me anytime!
  18. Installing front camera washer on ‘23

My 2022 Lariat has it, but it is broken (probably was from day 1). The part is on order and will be covered under warranty, but it did cost me several jugs of windshield washer fluid. Whenever I used the washer the fluid would continue to leak out of the camera area (almost like a siphon had...
