Ramcharger is basically a truck version of the Volt, which was a great car for us. Burned one tank of fuel in 3 years of commuting around town and could go cross country on gas. Ramcharger will be tempting, though we have driven to Oklahoma and back (from Seattle) in the Lightning. I-5 to I -40...
Re: EV battery dependence on China, China has so many problems (including picking fights with the nation who guarantees their trade routes) that this is the last decade we need to worry about them as an economic power.
So for many reasons, we both a) need alternative battery chemistry that...
We averaged 2.1kwhr per mile on a 5k mile trip around the west in the winter .. crossing several mountain ranges (Seattle -> Santa Fe -> okc and back). Only dicey area was Moab -> Santa Fe , but plan for enough stops and its fine .. and try not to drive above 70mph.
Simple Green, dryer sheets, mothballs .. those work. Rodents did 35k of damage to one of my Porsche’s since they used vegetable based rubber substitutes for the wiring. Needed a new wiring harness and 8 months in the shop. Insurance covered all but 5k of the damage. Afterwards I had traps set...
Depends on if the 2023 model has heated steering wheel and the digital scales due to shortages. It may not. 2024 also comes with a heat pump vs resistive heater (more winter range). However they are boosting the price again supposedly so it will be more expensive. Otherwise, no. Its a great...
The truck is great, but given the timing would wait for Silverado/Ram to ship in quantity. Once those come out the used Lightnings will tank in value and you can pick one up for half price.
I had the first supercharged (Roush) convertible of the previous gen .. as loaded as those get. 670hp .. didn’t handle very well (compared to a sports car) but was super fun. Would still have it likely if the seats didnt suck. Had to sell b/c the permanent lumbar in Fords seats kills my back...
Depends on the VP, was not impressed with the intellect of the one I worked with. Sample size of one though lol. This one is an ex Time Warner exec, i.e, a media guy.. not a software guy.
Auto manufacturers pay for third rate software engineers and get corresponding results. They’ll never care enough to make great software because they are focused on making great cars. So the best you’ll get till a software firm makes cars (i.e, cars become a commodity compute platform like...
I charge once every two to three weeks while at home. Local I get consistently over 3.2mi/kwhr even in Seattle area hills (“mountains” to folks in flatland lol). It doesn’t matter unless its extreme temps.
Netflix made 4.4 billion last year. Hulu/Espn+ are losing tons of money and Spotify has lost money every year it’s been in existence. XBox game pass is profitable, iTunes makes money. Pay to Win games make a sh**load of money for little additions that let you buy your way to winning. Cable is...
We averaged 2.0-2.1 m/Kwh at the end of winter going from Seattle to NM then Oklahoma. Crossing several mountain ranges and in blizzard conditions. We didn’t drive 70mph though, we tailed the big trucks at their speed and at one point (in a blizzard) were under the minimum speed limit. Coming...
Regular application of Simple Green seems to keep them out, or mothballs. If you forget they will move right in (on a Porsche). That said, I'm not sure you can keep them out of the Lightning if you have that problem and they find the wires tasty (made from sustainable products, etc.). Still, I...
RE: Pioneer's comment (didn't quote for some reason)
Imagine, if you will, that other things use electrical wires. Our truck might have a few of those .. and that rats may not know it's not an engine harness and eat it anyway :)
You could find that rats took up residence in the car and ate your engine harness. Then wind up with 35k in repairs that your hope are covered by insurance (State Farm did for my Porsche) … and wait months while they manufacture new parts. Make sure its inside and you have no critters :)
Seattle to Salt Lake is easy, but Price is your only charging station before Monticello going south to I-40. Not sure about east to Glenwood Springs. I know SW Colorado and NW Nm was a charging desert. We chose to come back (from OKC) via southern route through Cali for the convenience (and...
Trying to think of ways to upgrade the seats so I don’t need to sell it. Haven’t found any for sale yet of the activemotion seats but was wondering if its just a plug and swap? Also, if thats feasible (same truck, hopefully is).. is the massage fn locked out through the Sync system?
