Hi,
I own in a townhome/condo complex in San Jose.
There was an electrican working at a nearby home and I asked him for a quick estimate to add an EV outlet in, which he quoted $1500.
He mentioned it's easier to tap into the A/C Box and update the breaker to 80-100 amps, then tap into that to have the outlet in the connected garage.

Just checking in to see if anyone received info from any other electricians to do a similar process? and if the quote is about the same

He's spot on. I paid $1k just to put in a 240 plug in my garage. Main cost, in my case, was the length of copper wiring needed. I was recently quoted $1,500 by QMerit to install the Charge Pro in same location.

I can't speak for tapping into a AC box, as I have no panels left to use. So I would have to get a new panel added for the 80amp.

If the “AC box” is a subpanel, that’s fine. If it’s simply the required external disconnect, that’s not legal.

My best quote (and paid) was $1,785 to install a 240v/100A breaker in my existing Main panel, run 26 LF of #3 conductors in flex conduit to my FCSP they surface-mounted in my garage. Included a Journeyman and his Apprentice for ~6 hours.
