Hi I am struggling to justify getting the HIS after reading all the issues people are having with it.

Has anyone in the bay area had one installed and working?

The HIS is a home battery backup you can charge from the Lightning using the Charge Station Pro. It's a whole lot of proprietary components that in the end, don't seem to work that well. Even the people that report a working system still report a bunch of issues such as having to manually turn it on.

Get a solar system. Get a battery backup. but get the type you could charge from a generator, and use the PPOB to charge that. It requires some very specific wiring to do this, but it's not proprietary and you won't be stuck in the middle between Ford and Sunrun with each of them blaming the other and you not having a working home backup. Also Sunrun is a terrible company, look at their ratings. Don't get into business with them.

Don’t waste your money on HIS. Just have a generator bypass switch and plug installed when you have the charger installed (yes there are GFI issue that require a work around) I can run anything in my house (except AC) just not at same time.
I also have solar panels that I disable when using the Lightning. But power outages are just too infrequent for a more complex system.
