I'm at a complete loss. maybe it is the APIM. so next question is since the dealer has no idea when they can get one. if i buy one myself from somewhere, what part number do i go with?

Your APIM software is at the latest revision. If your APIM was shot, I kinda doubt that you would have been able to update it. Have you done a master reset and deleted the pairing on your iPhone and then re-paired from scratch? Are you seeing any DTCs for the APIM in FDRS?

Man i have done everything i can think of multiple times! I have done master reset several times through the menu, usually after updating the APIM and not seeing the issue resolved. I have unhooked the battery for a while and left it. I have reset my phone and reset my phone's network settings. And actually this morning there was an iOS update available for my phone that i applied and still no change in behavior. I also tried my wife's phone today and get the exact same thing. And the behavior is the same regardless of wireless or usb. It's crazy to me as well being an IT person. As an IT person, it almost reminds me of when there is a resolution mismatch on the display or something, like when you set your computer to a resolution that the monitor doesn't support, it just goes black, but you can still hear the sounds.

One thing that I noticed after the most recent round up updates is that I got an alert on my FordPass app that BlueCruise feature is ready with a 1 year complimentary subscription. Also something i find odd is that in FordPass under software updates/recent changes, it still only lists March 8, 2022 for FordPower-Up 1.7.1, which was when i took it to the dealership and had them flash it initially. Shouldn't that reflect the updates i have been pushing to it with the FDRS?

No. The Power Up notifications are absolutely irrelevant to those of us who manually update the ECUs. All the Power Up notification says is the last update Ford pushed to the truck OTA. It has absolutely nothing to do with your truck’s level of updatedness. Ignore it. It means absolutely nothing and it will never update unless and until Ford pushes another update to your truck—an unlikely event for a while since you are already out in front of the OTAs.

What programmer are you using? Nano or Mongoose? If you are using a Nano, get a Mongoose. If you are using a Mongoose, try logging out of FDRS and just give it a rest for a couple of hours. Or wait until tomorrow. Give yourself a chance to regroup. Then go back in, connect up and do a fresh Vehicle ID/Network scan and check for the presence of any DTCs. I suspect you are still having a configuration problem but checking for DTCs will let you know if it’s something else. If you are seeing DTCs, clear them and see if they come back. If you are seeing a failure to configure DTC in particular, you can try using the PMI tool to kickstart the final configuration.

i have been using a nano, but i kicked off the IPMA update and didn't realize it was a multi module update that included the CCM, so i bricked that and i'm now waiting on the Mongoose to arrive tomorrow to fix that and finish the IPMA update.

I thought it was cool that Ford monitors these forums and makes contact to see about helping until after all that back and forth, this is the email I get from FMC:

This email is regarding your recent contact to FMC.
We understand there has been a concern with the APIM for your vehicle.
We would recommend having the APIM replaced at your local Ford dealership in
order to determine the exact resolution to the issue once it is available.

Now that it’s been 6 weeks since I’ve gone to the dealership and they are still not able to get the part, I am willing to try purchasing one elsewhere, but want to make sure to get one that’s compatible. Do it need to order a specific part number or will any 2021 Apim with gps and navigation work? See attached for a screenshot from my Apim and also one that I’m curious if it will work.

AFAIK the APIM is the same as long as it has GPS and supports 12" screen. there is an 8" version that will be missing a connector to connect the 12" screen. @Jesse-Infotainment would be your best bet for getting a solid answer.

That one in the photo is for a 12” screen. You can tell because the LVDS has the additional 2 pins.

as ofthis date all ml3t apims in 12” have nav also. So you will be good to go with that one

When you get it do the PMI on it and you’ll be good to go

Is the “Scrap If Dropped” label something commonly seen on Ford parts of this type?

One thing that’s interesting that I’m not sure if I mentioned or not…..I NEVER see the ford splash screen on my unit. I have seen it maybe twice during a master reset or something but as far as turning the truck on, it never shows. Not sure if that’s intended behavior or not or just more proof that Apim is bad. Attached pic is the splash screen I’m referring to
