Having installed solar this year, I am locked in to NEM 2.0 for the next 20 years (though the present CPUC proposal would lower that to 15). Adding storage would reset this but what about this case where the storage is not permanent? Installing the disconnect alone is not adding storage until the truck is actually connected to the house...

I am also with NEM 2.0. It makes no sense to spend extra money to add storage except the situation that you need a generator. You only pay 2-3 cents per kWh delivery charge for every kWh you send to grid and use it later. Basically, you are using PG&E grid as free unlimited battery. I don’t expect power outbreak for more than 2 days, so it does not worth to make F150 to power the whole house for me.

This. Too many people are spending 'doomsday' money on things that will never benefit them.

I plan to get around this by installing a normal RV generator transfer switch just on the AC. This will allow me to take care of all of my energy needs from solar and then pay for the major consumer of power (home HVAC and truck charging) at the night time rate. I need to then remember to plug the truck into the house, then into the charger each night.
