For those of you that installed a dash cam, would you mind posting a pic of where you placed the camera on the windshield? Never had one before but I've read that it should be installed as close to the center of the windshield as possible. I had originally planned on installing it to the right (sitting in the driver's seat) of the rear view mirror stalk as my power cord plugs in on the right. This would tuck it out of sight and provide the most unobstructed view, but to be centered, I would need to install it under the mirror stalk. Thoughts?

Mine is to the right of the mirror stalk.

Very clean! What camera did you end up getting and did you tap into the back of the rear view mirror or run the cable somewhere?

Mine taking a closer profile view of the setup?

The dash cam is an Escort M1. I chose it because I can use one power source for both the radar detecter and the dash cam. The power is run from the BCM to the mirror. I had a stereo shop run it. I get a closer photo later today.

I got the front and rear camera Ford offers in the accessories catalog.
It is a ThinkWare product.
The dealer installed it before I even got behind the steering wheel.
This one is mounted to the glass immediately below the blackout just off center to the left.
completely invisible from any seated position in the truck.

Not really a high tech or high quality, but good enough to see most details.
it is also plugged into the obd port for power.

I only got this because less than a month before picking it up someone cut across two stopped left turn lanes as I started moving thru an intersection.
”At Fault” would have been difficult to prove had one of those gracious individuals refused to leave until police arrived and also used his truck for lighting and protection until then. Totaled my favorite pickup.
Happened at shift change in front of the Toyota Tundra manufacturing plant on a strip of road locals call without any affection at all “The Toyota 500”.

I now use an alternate route for my commute to avoid this game of ”Russian Roulette”

Not the best pic but mine is to the right of the mirror. Thinkware U1000. Wiring is tucked under the headliner and run down a pillar to the passenger side fuse box.
Truck is at the dealership for recall and alarm issue but can get some better pics when i get it back

I'll be installing a newer dashcam this weekend (I hope), and I'll probably try placing it closer to centered (directly to the right the mirror stalk) because the GPS unit is mounted differently. I was also going for the least amount of obstructed view as possible.

For now it's mounted per the following photos;

1. View from the driver's seat

Thank you all for the pics and suggestions. I just purchased a Thinkware Q800 Pro and will most likely install it just right of the mirror stalk. Using the cigarette lighter plug for now but will try to tackle the hardwire kit later on.

Hey Paul, how did you tap into your review mirror? Is that that the hardwire kit from Anker?

I used this adapter

The Anker part you see in the photo of my install is just used for cable management.

So one end goes into the back of the mirror and the other end is a USB port? I'm assuming I need a get a whole new different kind of cable that goes to my camera if I use this adapter. For reference, this is my current cable.

"So one end goes into the back of the mirror and the other end is a USB port?" - Correct.

The adapter comes with a couple of short USB cables.
