I came across this article from Airstream yesterday for a new concept model Airstream is looking to develop (not production yet). The basics of it are that it would use solar or shoreline to charge up a large battery bank which powers dual electric motors to propel itself behind a tow vehicle. Potential benefits include no more need for a WD hitch, improved fuel economy for tow vehicle, easier towing via sensors, remote control parking (off hitch), and versatility for boondocking. All pretty innovative ideas if they can actually pull it off.
Airstreams are out of my reach for now, but it does look like a pretty cool concept that could transform the travel trailer industry if it proves even reasonably affordable one day down the road.
