We just did a family road trip from seacoast NH to Quebec City and back, with a stop in Rangeley ME for one night each way. Overall a great time. Wish I had fancy mileage reports and trip logs to post, but here are the highlights:
-Left NH at 100%. Averaged about 2.4 up 95 somehow, must have had a tailwind. Charged at a Charge point in Auburn ME for a few minutes, picked up 12%.
-Arrived in Rangeley with about 35%. Charged overnight at a Tesla L2 destination charger at an AirBNB run by some nice folks. Original plan to charge overnight at a pizza place fell through as they shut off the charger at 8:00.
-Crossed the border the next day. Charged at a Tesla Supercharger in Ste Marie. First time using a Supercharger (we were some of the lucky 3800s on the adapter list who accidentally got their adapters shipped early). Worked great!
-Arrived at our AirBNB in Quebec. Charged there using our Mobile Charger. Slow as always, but picking up 20% or so per day helps a lot.
-While grocery shopping stumbled across a Tesla Supercharger at the supermarket (this seems common in Canada, and smart). Charged up about 19%, again worked great.
-Between that Supercharger and the mobile charger at our rental we were over 90% on departure day.
-Probably averaged 2.2 mi/kW in the return trip
-Drove to Lac Megantic, this time following the Ford Nav. It took us to a 50 kW charger, but PlugShare showed a 150 kW charger one minute away, seemingly on the same network. Not sure why Ford Nav sent us to the slow one, but we moved to the 150.
-This resulted in a couple minutes hassle, as it required a Circuite Electrique app, and I don't speak French. Some patience and Google Translate got us charging a few minutes later.
-From Lac Megantic we made it back to Rangeley and plugged in the mobile charger there.
-Departed Rangeley with maybe 55%. Crossed Height of Land (beautiful). Reset the trip stats and in the downhill was averaging 60.1 mi/kW over 20 miles or so. If only...
-Charged about 30 minutes at Auburn again, then homeward bound.
Overall, what a delight. The Lightning is so comfortable for our family of four, tons of gear, bikes, and everything else. Charging was mostly easy and not too expensive. We did city driving, backwoods Maine driving, driving in a surprise snowstorm, and even some off-road mud driving, and it handled everything like a champ. While I'm sure an ER model would have been nice, I don't know that it would have changed our charging requirements very much. Couldn't be happier. To wrak up, here is the Lightning at the Plains of Abraham in old Quebec City:
