1-pedal driving has felt quite natural to me, with regen feeling quite similar to 2nd-gear engine braking in my manual Jeep JK at moderate speeds. Going from daily-driving a manual to 1-pedal hasn’t been an issue for me at all. Oddly, I’ve also driven a manual with regen braking: a Honda manual transmission hybrid.
That all said, a couple funny stories:
Since I adapted pretty quickly to 1-pedal driving, I was now used to that behavior in a thing with a PRNDL type shifter. I was used to the vehicle not moving unless I put my foot on the accelerator.
Last winter, we were on vacation, and I had just picked up a rental (an Explorer, fwiw) for the week. So, I started the car, put it in reverse, and had a minor moment of panic when the vehicle started rolling when I took my foot off the brake. The creep you get with a traditional ICE auto transmission felt incredibly unnatural.
So, if you’re hopping between things with slush boxes and an EV, I can see where 1-pedal might be a bit of a problem. In fact, I got my tires rotated yesterday. I always chuckle to myself a little when I see techs moving the truck around the lot and it jerks to a stop because of 1-pedal.
It’s been icy here in Michigan this past weekend, and our road was particularly bad. Saturday night on my drive home, the truck pretty much crab-walked up last 1/4 mile home, going less than 20mph with the front left over the crown of the road with the other 3 still on the right side of the road. I’ve been impressed with the truck’s traction (especially with the new Toyo tires I’ve got on it), but it’ll pucker you right up when you feel this heavy thing start slowly sliding sideways towards the ditch. I was steering with the throttle more than I was with the steering wheel. Truck was in “Normal” and 1-pedal and T/C were on. I tried turning on the locking diff, but that seemed to make the rear slip out a little more sideways, so I turned it back off and let T/C do its thing. It seemed that it allowed for just enough wheel spin, but not too much. It was like a slow-mo rally race
