I've been thinking for months about larger / wider tires for my Lightning. I never liked the look of the stock wheel/tire combo. The verdict is there's a fairly significant range penalty going to heavier tires, especially when an AT tread is involved.

So I decided to try the stock Goodyear Territory HTs, which are very light, on the 20x9.5 - 6mm Vision Tactical wheels I was running with winter tires. The tread width is noticeably narrower than the Blizzaks, but otherwise, I'm OK with the look.

Sure, I would love the AT tire look, but will need the extra range when towing my camper this summer, so we'll see how these perform first.

So no mileage figures yet, but since the wheels weigh similar to stock, it should be an interesting test of how much just extra offset, and presumably less aero wheels impact range.

Note: the cap and 3/4" front level / 1-1/2" rear drop may have some effect as well.

Any updates on range impacts?
Nothing scientific yet, but I can say definatively that mileage with the Blizzaks was much worse than now with stock tires back on. No surprise there. I was never above 2.0 per mi/kWh with Blizzaks, but being back on stock tires, I'm regularly above 2.0. The weather is still cold here, which has more impact than anything, but I'm expecting good things with the stock tire/aftermarket offset combination once it warms up. My theory is the aero hit will be minimal, but we'll see. I'll post back in a few weeks.
