I’m looking to get a portable compressor to keep in my Lightning. Curious if anyone has purchased one specific for the Lightning? I was looking at something like an Viair 88P. I believe the Lightning has 12v in the frunk? Although I’m wondering if there’s a better options since we have 120V outlets in the bed? Thx for any insights.

The Via airs have an excellent reputation. I not know the model you pointed to but I'm sure it is good. Ive got the dual compressor ARB on my F350 permanently mounted. Ive also used a handyman pancake compressor plugged to 120v on my 150L. If you go with a 12v you have to be pretty careful about pulling too much power through a cigarette lighter or even a single battery. I think you almost cant go wrong with any of the options.

I’ve done the gambit from ARB compressor to CO2 tank to a York. The new Milwaukee M18 inflator is my current favorite. I already carry M18 batteries for my tools, so the new inflator fits my tool strategy. It works great on tires up to 80 psi, so it’s very quick on for the 36 PSI in the Lightning.

Bought 3 Viars for all three kids for Christmas 21, the ones I bought the year prior all died with less than 6 months and my kids just use them for personal use. The Viar feels pretty Stout and they don't need one this year!

That would work just fine.
I agree. Probs slow and loud but that is small and takes advantage of the 120v we have. AND if you need to use it for something else around the house - just plug it in to the wall. If you get it you ought to report back the amount of time it takes to go from 20psi to 40psi on our tires.

I'm not sure how intensive your needs are for air (air powered tools?), but for just inflating things, I've been in love with this one that I got in the last year.
https://www.dewalt.com/product/dcc020ib/20v-max-cordedcordless-air-inflator

I have other DeWalt tools, so I have multiple batteries and chargers. It tops my motorcycle tires off from 30 to 42 psi in less than 20 seconds. I haven't tried it on a truck tire. It fills my kids large inflatable pool in the backyard with the larger hose. It can be set to simply blow air for things like the pool or set to a specific PSI for things like tires. I really enjoy not having to put a tire gauge on the tire after inflating it.

I'd choose to keep this and an extra battery and possibly a charger under the back seat before I'd mount something in the bed that takes up space and make it harder to haul a load of plywood.

EDIT: It also comes with a power cord in case your battery dies and you need it immediately.

Frunk has 110v and USB A and C outlets.
Bed has 110v and 220v outlets.
For 12v you'll need to use the outlets in the front or back seat of the cab or open the panel in the back of the frunk and clamp to the battery.

My understanding is those shipped with the AT tires are 36 PSI, and All-Seasons are 42 PSI. The 'recall' for incorrect sensors applied to only the latter.

In hindsight I probably should have been more specific in my post. Rookie mistake.

My town requires you to carry a tire inflator as part of the beach driving permit. So I was looking for an inflator/compressor partially to meet the requirements but also to air back up to drive home after airing down for the beach.

Thinking about it more, I really don’t want to deal with 12V. Defeats the whole purpose of having 110V outlets. I think I’ll just go with the Husky 110V tire inflator I posted above.

I have a separate bigger air compressor at home to use for tires at home plus other air compressor uses.

thx for all of the thoughts here.

The beach I drive on requires you to drop to 11 psi. They have a compressor in a little shed at the pavement parking lot, but it’s broken about half the time. Airing up with the small M12 inflator is arduous, the new M18 inflator is much better but still takes about 8 minutes to do all 4 tires. That little husky unit should work for what you need.

Thanks for the thoughts. Stupid question but is there any reason I couldn’t just get one of these and power it from the outlets in the bed?

I have that one and overall seems to work well. I purchased it new about 5 years ago and Home Depot has replaced it 2x under warranty. Issue was prior versions hoses would fray/break close to the motor. Newest version has a wire thing at both ends that seems to help.
