With family visiting from Iowa, I decided it would be nice experience for her to ride along in the Lightning on a day trip that involved the need for a charging session, so that she had a better concept of how EV's perform.

Thursday morning I prepared the truck with a boost of charge to 100% an hour prior to departure, I also set the departure timer to condition the cabin for a leave time of 10:45 am, this is the charging curve going from 95% to 100% including the cabin conditioning that started at 10:30 am

We traveled via I95, I295, RI/Ma-146, I90 to Lee Mass. SOC dropped from 100% to 60% while driving a moderate 65 MPH keeping with the slow lane flow of mid morning traffic, a few section of slow rolling construction zones. I wanted to pick up enough energy to ensure a safe completion of the trip with no additional charging stops to minimize inconveniences, the girls took a stroll through the mall to find restrooms and stretch their legs.

Peak flow was around 178 KW, though only 171 when I captured this shot.

I did enroll for Pass-plus pricing for $7 fee, I was anticipating a higher energy consumption rate and forecasted a break even of be slightly ahead experience, as it turns out my energy consumption and required safety buffer was minimal so the 5.23 saved against the $7 fee is what it is, but I have 30 days to take advantage of the rate break if I take the truck on another road trip before August 10th.

The days travels covered 329 miles and a gradual meandering of hills & dales of central and western Massachusetts, a mix of interstate and state highways with a climb to the summit of Mount Greylock at 3491 feet and descent to the towns of Adams & North Adams, then a ride eastward along old Rt-2 to the Bridge of Flowers (not blooming), then back onto interstate at I-91 to I-90 to RT-146. Following the speed limits most of the way.

The overall performance of the Lightning was fantastic, attributed to modest driving speeds and warm weather, mid 70's at the summit and mid 80's in the lowlands.

@Ford Motor Company please select another color for Climate, it's too close to driving.

Based on this information had I not charged at EA in Lee, Mass, I might have made it home with 4% in the battery, too close for my comfort with my wife and sister on this trip, glad I picked up the extra 25% as a safety cushion.

2.6 for 329 miles is great. I wonder what that number would be for the same trip in February.

Ford: " We're so glad you had a fun trip! Thanks for sharing your experience! "

This makes me wonder if Ford uses this Forum mainly to improve customer relations and to help with breakdowns and not as much for product improvement. I would think of the site as gold mine to get customer feedback. I hope they do too.
